Exceptional Colosseum
This was well worth the extra money to be in a semi private tour with a guide. There was only one other couple (who were also enthusiastic learners), making it feel so personal. Tania our guide was fantastic. You essentially have an expert at your fingertips. Tania came with lots of experience as a history researcher. She explained the history of the time along with the history of the colosseum. Giving you an insite to the sheer undertaking, consideringthe size, engineering and cost. All done in less than 10 years. What a tour.
An excellent tour under unusual circumstances
Our tour was scheduled on a day that the main listed attractions, the Colosseum and Forum, were suddenly and unexpectedly closed due to a tragic worker death. So while the experience was very different than we had planned, our guide Patrik made the most of it and was able to give us tons of information from outside the ruins and elsewhere in the area. It was a fascinating tour, complete with visual aids Patrik brought with him, and we couldn't have wished for anything better given the unfortunate circumstances that didn't allow entry. I can only imagine how great of a guide he'd be in the real tour!
