Itinerary

1

We’ll pick you up at your Ho Chi Minh City hotel in the early morning, and you’ll travel with your English-speaking guide to the Cu Chi tunnels. The drive is around 60 km. At Cu Chi, you’ll be shown a documentary film about the tunnels and learn how the locals made bamboo traps, rice paper, and rice wine. You’ll then have the opportunity to explore the web of underground tunnels dug by Vietnamese resistance fighters.

Duration: 3 hoursAdmission: YES

After exploring the tunnels, we’ll drive to My Tho. This is one of the provinces that comprise the Mekong Delta area. We’ll cruise by boat along the upper Mekong through a region with islands named after 4 animals that appear in Buddhist writings – Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix, and Turtle. On this part of the tour, you’ll observe some of the activities of regional Vietnamese daily life and appreciate how life here depends on the River. We’ll then take you on a trip by rowboat along the small waterways. You’ll see the agricultural richness of the delta region in its fruit orchards, coconut groves, and bee-keeping farms. We’ll stop so you can enjoy honey tea, seasonal fruit, fresh coconut candy, and southern Vietnamese folk music. At the end of our tour, we’ll drive back to Ho Chi Minh City and drop you off at your hotel at around 18:00.

Recommended Private Option with Kevin as guide

From start to finish we had the perfect day with Kevin as our guide and our driver was also extremely good. Would highly recommend choosing this private tour option as the tunnels and river both get quite busy. Kevin managed to guide us round the important areas of the tunnel complex whilst avoiding all the larger tour groups. Lunch included on the tour was at the restaurant at the tunnel complex and was very nice. Cold drinks including coke and beer supplied in the vehicle were welcome after each hot and humid stop! On the way to the tunnels we stopped at a handicapped craft centre which was interesting to see how the lacquer and egg-shell pictures were made - no hard-sell from the proprietors. After lunch we headed to My Tho (about 2 hours from Cu Chi) and had a boat ride to Unicorn Island. We explored a Coconut Candy factory and outlet and went to a family-run fruit farm, sampled the fruits and pandan tea whilst they entertained us with a medley of Vietnamese folk songs! We then headed for a rowing boat ride rowed by locals along the small inlets using a typical boat used to lay fish traps in the region. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable day!

GREAT TOUR WITH MAX!!!

We had a great time during the tour. Max was our tour guide and he made everything easier for us. We learned a lot about Ho Chi Minh City through him. He was very smart and always so smiley which made my mom and I's day! We'd surely book again next time when we come back :)

Great guide, small group, long drive

Our guide Ni was very friendly and taught us a lot about the history of Vietnam, including the war and about the areas we visited. Doing the tunnel tour with a small group of 6 people was great ! 3 of us in the group didn't feel very confident going down the tunnels but we still wanted to try and it felt reassuring to have 4 options for exits (20, 40, 60 or 100 meters). We had a set lunch with a variety of Vietnamese dishes at the restaurant of the tunnels museum, which was very tasty. In the afternoon we went around a small island in the Mekong delta region, did a tour in a kart, listened to traditional music and then went on a canoe in a narrow river. The only issue was the driving which was 6 hours in total but the limousine/mini-bus was very comfortable.

Good but not quite as vip as promised.

The day was well planned and went according to plan. Our tour guide and driver were professional, very knowledgeable and friendly. I did not like how many stops we were asked to tip locals or buy goods, this felt excessive and took away from the experience. Also felt slightly vip then was described.
