We flew in to Dublin for the week as a last minute anniversary trip (our second time to Ireland) and decided to book a Wild Rover tour to Kilkenny, Glendalough, and the Wicklow Mountains National Park in order to see some sights outside of the city. We are SO GLAD we did, and we are most grateful to have landed John as our driver and guide! What a wealth of knowledge he has! Don’t worry—he doesn’t talk the entire time—he gives you time to soak up the scenery, as well. The tour was recommended in Rick Steve’s Dublin Guidebook, and we would like to add our thumbs up, as well! We spent about 2 1/2 hours touring the Medieval Mile in Kilkenny, including a castle and a cathedral, with time to grab a bite to eat. You can stick with the guide for the first 20 minutes or so and then go off on your own or just go on your own. We enjoyed the stories John had to share about local lore! Outside of Kilkenny, we did a photo op stop at a scenic location in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains and then stopped at the nearby ancient ruins of Glendalough Monastery for a two hour hike through the ruins, where there are also trails should you want to do some hiking in the national park. It is easy to see why this sacred place is an important pilgrimage site. Again, stick with your guide for the first few minutes to get some background history in order to appreciate all the history that occurred here in centuries past. Finally, we stopped just a bit further down the road to visit Cullen’s Sheep Farm, a four generation working sheep farm where we got to watch live sheep dog demonstrations and even hold a baby lamb! Don’t miss this very reasonable one day trip!

Exploring Ireland’s Heartland and the Burren
Leaving Dublin behind, the journey heads west through the rolling green fields of Ireland’s heartland. As the landscape begins to change, you’ll notice the rugged beauty that makes the west of Ireland so special. Along the way, you’ll enter the unique region known as the Burren, a fascinating limestone landscape filled with rare plants and ancient geological formations.

A beautiful experience
What a lovely experience we had! Our guide said he was a “singing guide” and his songs but also his knowledge about Ireland’s history made the journey back and forth unforgettable. We had such a great time and we were also very grateful to our driver who drove with a lot care through the beautiful roads of Ireland. The cliffs were impressive and 2 hours is enough to fully enjoy the landscape, and we also had a nice taste of Galway (2 hours go by fast but it was so nice!). If you have any doubt about booking a day with Wild Rover Tours: don’t, they’re the best and you’ll have the best time!

Stellar work
It was freezing but the bus was warm and dry! I wish I had brought better shoes to walk in with all the rain, but the company on the bus was stellar. Our guide was very encouraging to us to try new things and explore. For such a small amount of money this was 10 hours of a lot of fun. The bus is comfortable, the WiFi works well and the charging ports really came in handy. I was glad to be able to learn about the rich history of Dublin while going around and feeling the country! I had a lot of fun at the first stop going into the castle (~10) and walking around to the local shops for some shopping. Many say the best part was the sheep but I thought Wicklow Way Gleann Dá Loch - Glendalough was great to explore nature and relax for a bit outside. Be careful when it’s wet walking up and down the stairs because you do not want to fall

Dave was an amazing guide! There was great information and history given to us on the way!
Dave and Billy were great guides and suggested some good places to eat. Giants Causeway was extremely cold and wet so we went in to eat at the Nook. Dave recommended the Irish Stew and it was incredible to say the least. Dunluce Castle is breathtaking and the Titanic museum is one you’ll never forget. Overall a really wonderful experience.

I have used this tour service for the past three years and have never had a negative experience until now. Unfortunately, this particular tour was very different. My rating reflects our experience with the guide, Maurice. From the very beginning, his approach toward us especially toward my wife was quite rude and uncomfortable. His remarks and comments throughout the tour felt inappropriate and unprofessional. I understand that cultural differences can sometimes affect how communication is perceived, and I may not fully understand the manners in Ireland. However, regardless of cultural context, the experience provided by Maurice did not meet reasonable expectations of courtesy and respect. Additionally, Maurice publicly humiliated another guest during the tour, which further contributed to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Overall, this experience was disappointing and not reflective of the positive experiences we have had in previous years.

The trip with Matt and Sara was amazing! Matt was really funny and told us a lot about Ireland — its history, myths, and culture. He also gave us great recommendations for food and drinks in Dublin and Galway. Sara is a perfect driver; the whole ride was safe and smooth. The Cliffs of Moher are breathtaking, and you definitely must see them when you are in Ireland.

The trip was great! We choose the cliffs of Moher and Galway day trip. Kate the guide is very cheerful and you can just tell she adores her job! Thorough explanations on everything we were seeing off the bus and also in galway if you wanted to stay and hear about it. Steve the drives was a marvel in driving skillfully through the atlantic way no matter the curves ! Fast and as precise as a clock. Would recommend a 100%, fully worth the amount paid !
