It was all the more disappointing how they handled a breakdown during our tour. Midway through our ride, one of the bikes developed a problem with its gears and was therefore unusable. There was only a general hotline, where I reached an employee who didn't even work at the San Francisco location. It took about 30 minutes before I finally received a call back from the San Francisco office. I was then told that I would have to take an Uber myself to return to the rental company and that I would be reimbursed afterward. Finding an Uber driver willing to take my wife and me, along with two bikes, was, of course, the next challenge. After some time, we finally managed it and returned to the rental company at our own expense. There, I did receive a replacement bike, but I was explicitly told once again that I only needed to send an email to get the Uber costs reimbursed. So I did. Unlimited Biking's response was a huge disappointment: instead of a refund, they only offered me a voucher for a future bike rental. To this day, I haven't received a single cent of my expenses back – despite having purchased additional insurance. The condition of the bikes was also disappointing overall. The gears on both bikes weren't properly adjusted, and the brakes didn't look good. Especially for a bike rental company where safety should be paramount, this is unacceptable. In summary: poor condition of the bikes, inadequate service when something broke, long response times, and ultimately no refund of the promised costs. My experience with Unlimited Biking was truly awful. I would not recommend renting a bike from them to anyone. (Original) Meine Erfahrung mit Unlimited Biking in San Francisco war leider sehr schlecht. Ich habe dort zwei Fahrräder ausgeliehen und zusätzlich eine Versicherung abgeschlossen. Umso enttäuschender war es, wie mit einem Defekt während unserer Tour umgegangen wurde. Mitten auf der Tour hatte eines der Fahrräder einen Defekt an der Schaltung und war dadurch nicht mehr fahrbereit. Es gab lediglich eine allgemeine Hotline, bei der ein Mitarbeiter erreichbar war, der selbst nicht am Standort in San Francisco arbeitete. Bis ich schließlich einen Rückruf vom Standort in San Francisco erhielt, vergingen etwa 30 Minuten. Mir wurde dann mitgeteilt, dass ich selbst ein Uber nehmen müsse, um zum Vermieter zurückzukehren, und dass mir die Kosten anschließend erstattet würden. Einen Uber-Fahrer zu finden, der meine Frau und mich inklusive zwei Fahrrädern mitnimmt, war natürlich die nächste Herausforderung. Nach einiger Zeit haben wir es schließlich geschafft und sind auf eigene Kosten zurück zum Vermieter gefahren. Dort bekam ich zwar ein Ersatzfahrrad, allerdings wurde mir erneut ausdrücklich gesagt, dass ich lediglich eine E-Mail schreiben müsse, um die Uber-Kosten zurückzubekommen. Gesagt, getan. Die Antwort von Unlimited Biking war jedoch eine große Enttäuschung: Statt einer Erstattung wurde mir lediglich ein Gutschein für eine zukünftige Fahrradausleihe angeboten. Bis heute habe ich keinen Cent meiner entstandenen Kosten zurückerhalten – trotz der zusätzlich abgeschlossenen Versicherung. Auch der Zustand der Fahrräder war insgesamt enttäuschend. Bei beiden Fahrrädern waren die Schaltungen nicht richtig eingestellt, und die Bremsen machten keinen guten Eindruck. Gerade bei einem Fahrradverleih, bei dem Sicherheit eine zentrale Rolle spielen sollte, ist das für mich nicht akzeptabel. Zusammenfassend: Schlechter Zustand der Fahrräder, mangelhafter Service bei einem Defekt, lange Reaktionszeiten und am Ende keine Erstattung der zugesagten Kosten. Meine Erfahrung mit Unlimited Biking war wirklich schrecklich. Ich würde niemandem empfehlen, hier ein Fahrrad auszuleihen.

We had a wonderful experience renting bikes from Unlimited Biking while visiting D.C. We were able to easily ride to the capital mall and visit all of the main monuments and memorials. It did take us longer than our original 2 hour rental time, but the staff were accommodating to allow us to just pay for 1 extra hour. Our bikes worked great and we had no issues at all. I would recommend this business as a great option if you want to rent bikes to get around and see D.C.
