Good Tour if You Don’t Mind Large Groups
I joined a tour that included a climb up Mount Vesuvius and a visit to a winery with wine tasting. Personally, I usually prefer smaller, more intimate groups because I enjoy connecting with people. When I realized it was a full bus, I was a bit disappointed — I only really had the chance to meet a few people during lunch. The guide was very kind and gave nice insights about the places we passed, sharing a bit of local history and culture, which I appreciated. The hike up Vesuvius I did on my own and truly enjoyed the time at the top. As for the wine tasting, I had high expectations but felt it was rather vague. For someone with some knowledge of wine, I would have appreciated more detailed explanations. The visit to the estate was also quite short and didn’t allow much time to enjoy the space. Overall, if you don’t mind large groups and are simply looking for a straightforward excursion, this can be a good option. But if you’re seeking a more personal experience and meaningful connection, it might not be the best choice.

We really enjoyed the gondola itself, the relaxation, the “back roads”. It was fun to listen to the comaraderie among the gondoliers, but our particular gondolier was on his phone most of the time and our tour was 1.5 hours long. He did provide us with a couple of interesting comments along the way and asked if we had questions but I didn’t know what to ask and he offered very little. In retrospect, we should’ve told him to give us more information, maybe stories, but I think he also should’ve asked. So in that way it was disappointing.
