Very informative trip

We booked this using our Copenhagen Discover card, which covered all museums, galleries, palaces & castles. It was well worth it. The canal trip gave us time to rest our feet, hear some history and shelter from the rain!

This review is for Birka as a whole. If you have a serious interest in Norse history, then Birka is a “must-see” if you are in Stockholm. Once a thriving seaport and trading center a thousand years ago, it’s now a small island with a thousand excavated gravesites and several thousand unexcavated ones. It’s also the site for Grave Bj-581, aka “The Viking Shield Maiden Warrior” (the truth is actually a lot more complex than the media portrays). The Viking Village is small and kind of underwhelming; only one person was in period clothing, but she did give an excellent demonstration of how a sprang loom works. If you are a living historian/reenactor, the gift shop is a godsend—they have dozens of replicas of items found at Birka, with references to which grave the item came from. I am a living historian, and this is like catnip—Vikings essentially pillaged my credit card! Be aware that you need to use Stromna Lines boat to get to Birka, and it’s two hours each way. The boat was nice, crew were friendly, but it does turn the three hours on the island into a full day. If you only have a passing interest, it might be a bit much.

Une fois servis, les cocktails étaient délicieux mais au bout du 2eme, il n’y avait déjà plus le choix disponible que nous souhaitions (il est pourtant mentionné "illimité" sur la réservation). Nous avons ensuite été servis un cocktail qui goûtait l’eau... Pour résumé, la qualité était là mais le service et la quantité de cocktails prévue étaient vraiment décevants.

Extremely happy that I booked this tour with lunch. Not only did I enjoy the commentary about the archipelago , the lunch and drinks were fabulous! And the crew were so welcoming . Love ,love , love !!! Recommend it 😊

Schöne Fahrz durch die Schären!! Leider war das Boot zu voll und man verstand leider nicht die Informationen über den Lautsprecher!!
