In my opinion, except for the excellent guided tour, ok museum and beautiful island, this is a poor experience for the money. We went on a Swedish national holiday. Birka's website advertised activities. There were none. If you want to eat, be prepared to spend 150kr for a hot meal or chance it with the poorly stocked cafe on the understaffed ferry or on the island. Both ran out of savory food by the time I got to the front the queue.
