Cicchetti & Wine Tour of Venice

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and our host, Ursula. She was knowledgeable, friendly, funny and really helped us connect the locations with the foods we tried, through stories and interesting history. The places were unique and off the beaten path which made us feel like we were getting a local experience. Urusula accommodated those that had food restrictions effortlessly. Overall great experience and would recommend!

Lovely countries, disappointing service.

I have travelled with Intrepid a number of times and enjoyed the experience. Recently I did the Madrid to Marrakech trip. However I was disappointed. I enjoyed seeing Spain, Portugal and Morocco, but most of what I saw was down to myself, not Intrepid. The problem is that Intrepid are obsessed with their carbon imprint, and also they engage in major cost-cutting. They are really out to save money so they can make a profit even to the detriment of their guests. What the guides do now is mainly transport you from place to place, usually by public train, bus, and also local commuter transport such as metros. As you do not have your own minibus, you are subject to the timetables and often don’t leave till around 11am, thus wasting a whole morning. If you had a minibus you can start every day at around 8am or 9am. The journeys on the trains and buses are through major transport areas where there is nothing much to see, so you miss out on any attractive countryside. Using local metros and buses is agony as they are super crowded and you feel that you and your luggage are creating a nuisance. Plus it wastes time. So, usually you arrive around 2.30pm, check in, and your guide gives you a very rushed orientation walk, and then might or might not take you to a restaurant where they might or might not eat with you. The whole next day is usually free time, even though you are in a strange city with no idea how to find your way around. If there is something particular you want to see, you have to either find your own way or pay extra for a guided tour. Surely Intrepid should be showing you the local sights, but they seldom do. I felt that most of what I saw was up to me and I might as well have travelled completely solo. When asked what they did on the off days, the guides said they were planning their next trips. Most of the accommodation was ok, a couple less than adequate hotels, and sometimes not in good areas of town. That varies a lot. Overall, I feel that the value was not there. Most of what I saw on this trip, I saw by myself. I am unlikely to use Intrepid again.

Excellent food tour with Brian!!

This was a great tour with Brian. The food at every stop was amazing and we got to try a wide variety. We heard stories about each place and the history of Brooklyn too. We left feeling very full. Brian was engaging, knowledgeable and a fun guide. Would highly recommend!

our guide C was absolutely amazing. She added a stop that wasn’t a regular stop for the group to enjoy some oysters. I highly highly recommend this tour. It was narrated and guided by a company called intrepid. An absolute blast. The tour lasted almost 3 hours well over the schedule time.

Not willing to work with clients

I would not recommend Intrepid Urban Adventures Chicago as a company to do business with. I purchased a tour for myself and 6 out of state colleagues. Due to an unforeseeable issue the morning of the tour, two of our colleagues had to return back to work and could not attend the tour. I reached out to Urban Adventures to ask for a credit to use for future tours or a voucher to gift to others for the services not rendered. Not only was I denied a credit or voucher, I was offered a 15% discount to use toward future services. Definitely not the way to foster future business. I would not recommend using this company for tours. Find a company that is willing to work with clients who have reasonable requests. As for the tour itself. It was okay. The designated stops were very basic. Again, I think there are better tour companies available that are willing to work with clients to create future business.

Took this tour my teenage son and we both loved it! Lexie was our guide, she’s fantastic! Super knowledgeable local, entertaining, friendly and accommodating. She really made an effort to include my teenager as well as all the adults in the group. So glad we booked this tour, highly recommend!
