A beautiful and fascinating old castle, but it is quite expensive to visit and very crowded. The exhibition of torture equipment was macabre but dree my attention.

Nice but not too much to see. Especially if draculla's myth is what you are after. Avoid the time tunnel, really a waste of time and money

Dracula’s Castle – Too Famous for Its Own Good I went to a couple of castles in Romania, and of course, I couldn’t miss the most infamous one: the castle of the vampire, Dracula. And apparently, I was not the only one, because it was really crowded. I went on a Sunday in the off-season at opening time, and it was just a queue throughout the whole castle. I could even enjoy the warmth of the sun while waiting a good 15 minutes to get in. As for the castle itself, I would describe it as short and sweet. It’s not a big castle, and you feel that when you’re stuffed in with a lot of other visitors. But it is nice—there are signs with extra details for most rooms. The rooms are nicely filled with interesting pieces from the castle’s history. The castle is well-maintained, clean, and nicely decorated, and the route you take through it is quite pleasant. For the horror lovers, there is some Dracula/horror-themed shenanigans (like the torture chamber), but that will cost you extra, so I skipped it. But keep in mind that this is still mainly a Romanian castle first and a Dracula attraction second. The whole village of Bran does very much lean into the Dracula theme, with themed stores and haunted houses. But let’s face it, nothing I say would prevent you from going, so enjoy your spooky time. For other possible visitors: With the size and crowding in mind, the 70 RON (€14) price tag does kinda sting. Luckily, I got the student discount, so I only paid 40 RON (€8) to the good folk of Bran Castle. What is cool, though, is that since this place is such a tourist hotspot, there are plenty of souvenir shops and restaurants in the area before the castle. Would I recommend this place? If you’re visiting in the off-season and it doesn’t look too busy, it’s a nice and interesting visit, so go for it. If it’s high season and super crowded, you can still go but be prepared to enjoy slowly waddling through the narrow rooms, surrounded by the warm breath and sweat of the other good people who also wanted to see the famous castle of Vlad the Impaler and his fictional counterpart. If that’s less of your thing—there are plenty of other castles in Romania that are just as nice, if not nicer. So go out there and enjoy your trip, and thanks for reading! =)

If you catch the time right it can be enjoyable. Otherwise it is too crowded.

What a disappointment! I didn’t expect this to be fancy or anything, but I also didn’t expect it to be badly done, partly closed, and kitsch. I went on a Saturday at the same time as half of Romania, apparently, and the guides shout so loudly I put in earplugs to be able to read the signs. To anyone who thinks there’s anything related to vampire lore here: no. It’s horrid because the vendors have plenty of tasteless vampire stuff on sale — but then the historical figure on whom Dracula is based on isn’t introduced anywhere. Why only embrace the bad stuff? There is one picture of Vlad Tepeș with the other princes and a cheap plastic movie costume for his character. That’s all. Two other rooms on Romanian mythology — this could have been good and interesting, but sadly no. For some reason the rooms are “decorated” with huge plastic roses. The castle itself is very impressive looking and their princess (much more information on her there) seems an interesting historical figure.

It’s worth visiting. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I visited in the morning, so it wasn’t too crowded.
