A very beautiful and picturesque castle. You can see why it is the inspiration for Dracula. Turning into a bit of a tourist trap and prices are rising and so are the number of visitors. Very busy when I was there and with the narrow hallways and rooms there wasn’t really much space to enjoy it. It is good how they haven’t fallen into the trap of making everything about Dracula and much of the history of the castle is it on show.

If you're visiting Brașov, it's definitely worth a visit, even if only for some photos of the castle grounds. It's been allegedly refurbished, they could do a lot more, but it is packed daily. Go first thing or later in the day. The medieval torture extra 'tour' was worth it, but would skip the 'elevator / tunnels', really not worth it at all.

Title: Overrated, Overcrowded, and Overhyped I had high expectations visiting Bran Castle, often marketed as “Dracula’s Castle,” but unfortunately it turned out to be one of the most disappointing tourist experiences I’ve had in Romania. First and foremost, the overcrowding is unbearable. Narrow hallways and cramped rooms were packed with tourists being funneled through like cattle. It was hard to stop, take in the exhibits, or even breathe at times. The flow of the visit felt chaotic and stressful — definitely not the atmosphere you want when visiting a supposedly eerie Gothic castle. As for the exhibits, they felt cheap and hastily thrown together. Plastic mannequins, fake cobwebs, and Dracula trivia panels tried to sell the myth rather than provide any real historical insight. It honestly felt more like a Halloween attraction than a real castle with centuries of history. There’s very little actual connection to Vlad the Impaler, and the museum does little to clarify that — if anything, it leans into the confusion. The whole place is heavily commercialized, with souvenir stalls and “Dracula”-branded merchandise waiting at every turn. It was hard to tell if I was visiting a cultural monument or a theme park cash grab. If you’re genuinely interested in history, architecture, or Romanian heritage, Peleș Castle could be worth a try.
