Their main task was to block the enemy in front of the fortress until help arrived from Brasov (which is 30km away). The castle has gone through centuries, changing owners, status and defensive importance. It was conquered, it repelled attacks, it was destroyed and rebuilt. Today the entrance to the castle is not the same as in the past. Although today a steep staircase leads to a beautiful old door, in the past everything was completely different - the old entrance to the castle consisted of a small door high above the ground with a drawbridge, which made it difficult to conquer the fortress. On December 1, 1920, the citizens of Brasov, by a unanimous decision of the city council, offered the castle as a gift to Queen Maria, as a symbol of their gratitude for her love. During World War II, the castle was ruled by Princess Ileana, who became the heiress of her mother, Queen Maria. In 1948, the castle was turned into a museum, and the royal family was expelled from it and from the country by the communist regime of Romania. Only on May 18, 2006, after a long legal battle, the castle was returned to its rightful heirs - Dominic von Habsburg, the son of Princess Ileana, grandson of Queen Maria, who leased it to the state for use as a museum, which opened in June 2009. So, what is Dracula's role here? Historically and literary: Count Dracula really existed, but he was not a vampire and not only did not live in Bran Castle, but he had nothing to do with it. Bran Castle and Vlad Dracula existed separately, until Bram Stoker at the end of the 19th century did not write his famous "Dracula". Bram Stoker himself had never been to Romania. He depicted Dracula's imaginary castle based on a description of Bran Castle, which was available to him. Well, because where did Dracula live? Stoker read a description of a random Romanian castle, which turned out to be Bran, and transferred this description to his novel, making the castle Dracula's residence.
