(Translated by Google) A place that's more legend than merit. It could be better developed and more appealing, but it's still a place worth visiting and enjoying. The surroundings are beautiful. There's a market at the entrance. It's a quick visit.

Perched on a dramatic hill and wrapped in just enough legend to keep your imagination wide awake, Bran Castle (a.k.a. Dracula’s Castle) had been sitting on our must-see list for ages. I mean, let’s be honest. Visiting Romania and skipping Dracula would feel like going to Paris and ignoring the Eiffel Tower. It just doesn’t compute. 🧛‍♂️ The drive there was long, the kind where the scenery slowly shifts into misty mountains and storybook villages, and the expectations in our car grew bigger with every kilometer. We had also heard a lot of mixed opinions beforehand. Some people said it’s amazing, others said it’s overhyped, and quite a few warned us that it might not be the best place with little kids. Naturally, that planted a small seed of hesitation in our minds. But curiosity won. And honestly? We’re glad it did. We visited with our kids and found the experience perfectly manageable and actually pretty fun for them. Yes, the castle definitely leans into the Dracula theme and there are a few spots that feel a little eerie in that classic medieval-castle way. Dim hallways, old wooden doors, narrow passages… the whole atmospheric package. But nothing that felt truly scary. Instead, it mostly sparked a lot of questions from the kids about Dracula, vampires, and whether anyone actually lived there at night. The history lesson kind of snuck in disguised as spooky storytelling, which we’ll happily count as a parenting win. That said, it’s worth noting that the castle has many steep and narrow staircases. Some of them twist like a spiral puzzle and are definitely not stroller-friendly. If you have to carry a small child, you’ll feel it in your arms after a while. Comfortable shoes are a very good idea, and taking your time helps. It’s not impossible with kids, just something to be aware of before you go. Another thing that surprised us was the size of the castle. From the outside it looks quite grand, but inside it’s actually fairly compact. You can explore the entire place in about an hour if you move at a relaxed pace and pause to read some of the exhibits. For us, that length was actually perfect with children. Long enough to enjoy, short enough before someone starts asking where the snacks are. The rooms themselves are interesting and give you a glimpse into royal life, along with exhibits that connect the castle to the Dracula legend that made it famous worldwide. Even if you already know that the connection between the castle and Bram Stoker’s Dracula story is more legend than fact, it’s still fun to walk through the corridors and imagine what stories these walls could tell. Now, a quick note about tickets, because this is something people should know before visiting. You can buy tickets either online or directly at the castle. Buying online can save time, but it can also be a little tricky because there are several unofficial or fake sites floating around the internet. It’s best to double-check that you’re using the official website. When purchasing online, you’ll also need to select a check-in time, which helps manage the visitor flow. It’s a good system, but something to plan for in advance. One more small tip for families: while the castle was totally fine for kids during our visit, we’ve heard that during Halloween season the experience becomes much more intense with special events and spooky themes. In that case, it might be better suited for older kids or adults. Totally understandable, considering Dracula’s home turf probably gets a little extra dramatic that time of year. Overall, Bran Castle was a really enjoyable stop on our Romania trip. It’s atmospheric, historic, a little mysterious, and wrapped in just the right amount of legend to make the visit memorable. Even with kids, it worked out well for us as long as we took it slow and embraced the adventure. If Dracula were handing out guest books, we’d happily leave five stars. 🏰🦇

(Translated by Google) It's not worth paying to see the inside of the castle; the best way to see it is from the lake below, where you'll get a great photo. It's a total tourist trap. (Original) No merece la pena pagar para ver el castillo por dentro, lo mejor es ver el castillo desde el lago de abajo, donde tendrás una buena foto. Es una turistada en toda regla.

(Translated by Google) It is worth the visit, from a historical and architectural point of view. Although it is not the castle of the count himself. The location is beautiful in all seasons. I suggest you visit it with an organized office and have the guided tour.
