Seeing the structure rise directly from the jagged rock immediately evokes the eerie, gothic atmosphere made famous by Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Unlike more lavish royal residences, this site feels like an authentic medieval fortress, prioritizing defensive architecture over kingly luxuries. The views from the castle overlooking the beautiful Transylvanian landscape are absolutely stunning and worth the climb alone. I visited in April and enjoyed direct access with no queues at the entrance, which made the experience very smooth. While the on-site torture museum is fairly standard and not particularly unique compared to others, the rest of the grounds are excellent. As a practical bonus, the facility includes very clean toilets for visitors. It is a must-visit for anyone looking to capture the quintessential spirit of Transylvania.

Contrary to many reviews on here we had a brilliant time at Castle Bran and would recommend visiting it more than Peles Castle. There were no queue to enter, it was not too busy, and the information boards were interesting and told you all about the history, folklore and people, and you really felt emerged in the life at the castle. There are a few nice food places around Bran too, and we ended up spending our afternoon there too. Overall, can only recommend this castle!
