Beautiful medieval castle which played a part in Romanian Royal Family. Once you visit, you can see a medieval fortress turned into a cozy house with secret staircases, nooks and small rooms. Part of the exhibition is devoted to the Romanian Royals and part to Bram Stoker's Dracula. There are no queues to get the tickets - you can buy them online or in one to the ticket machines at the entry to the gardens (before you enter the castle's premises there is a market with souvenirs)

Amazing place to visit. Advance booking recommended- you get a time slot to enter the castle- go slightly later as the early birds get stuck in a bottleneck! Can get very busy so go early if possible. Was a lovey medieval village outside the castle full of entertainment and food.

But on Friday evening, shortly before 6 p.m., we were extremely glad we'd finally decided to go for it. The castle is architecturally spectacular and fascinating: incredibly narrow, labyrinthine, with countless small rooms, doors, bay windows, hidden passageways, secret passages, steep staircases, landings, various balconies, and small niches. It's simply breathtaking. The information panels inside about Romanian history, the history of the castle, and its connection to Bran and Brașov are exceptionally well-researched and presented in a highly engaging way. The only downside is the commercialized myth: the building has absolutely nothing to do with the fictional Dracula figure. If anything, the historical Vlad III Țepeș was probably imprisoned here for a few days. The fact that a dynasty like the Habsburgs feels the need to exploit this historical setting for tourism in this way, raking in millions in profit, leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste. Despite the commercial hype surrounding it, the castle's structure and architecture are absolutely worth seeing! (Original) Wir haben ehrlich gesagt lange mit uns gerungen, ob wir den stolzen Eintrittspreis von 360 Lei (ca. 72 €) bezahlen sollen. Am Freitagabend kurz vor 18 Uhr waren wir dann aber extrem froh, uns durchgerungen zu haben. Die Burg ist architektonisch schlichtweg spektakulär und faszinierend: ungemein eng, verwinkelt, mit unzähligen kleinen Zimmerchen, Türen, Erkern, versteckten Quergängen, Geheimgängen, steilen Treppen, Absätzen, verschiedensten Balkonen und kleinen Nischen. Man kommt aus dem Staunen kaum heraus. Auch die Informationstafeln im Inneren über die rumänische Geschichte, die Historie der Burg sowie die Verbindung zu Bran und Brașov sind ausgesprochen fundiert und hochinteressant aufbereitet. Einziger Wermutstropfen bleibt der kommerzielle Mythos: Mit der fiktiven Dracula-Figur hat das Gebäude rein gar nichts zu tun. Wenn überhaupt, war der historische Vlad III. Țepeș hier wohl einmal für ein paar Tage in Gefangenschaft. Dass eine Dynastie wie die Habsburger es nötig hat, diese historische Kulisse auf diese Weise touristisch auszuschlachten, um Millionen an Gewinn einzustreichen, hinterlässt einen leicht faden Beigeschmack. Trotz des kommerziellen Rummels drumherum: Die Substanz und Architektur der Burg selbst sind absolut sehenswert!
