Opening up the food of Hiroshima
A great fun evening with Aleef. He was knowledgeable and very informative and kept the tour informal and fun. From the vending machine culture to Hiroshima oysters, Sake tasting and the local treat of Okonomiyaki, we covered a wide selection of food and venues. All those hidden away places up stairs and down alleys become immediately accessible.

Great Kyoto Food Tour!
Pontocho Walking Food Tour We met our guide, Daniela for a walking food tour around the Pontocho and Gion Shirakawa areas. Our first stop was at the Kiharu Brasserie to experience the local Okonomiyaki 'pancake' dish, which was delicious. We moved on through the Gion district and Daniela pointed out places of interest in this rustic and historical area. We sampled teas and specialist sweets (including being given a gift of our choice) before going on to a restaurant sampling an assortment of Yakitori 'kebab' skewers, expertly chosen by Daniela, along with tastings of sake and craft beers. Daniela was a charming, friendly and informative host and we thoroughly enjoyed her company and expertise on the history of the area and guidance on choosing the local food to try. We would thoroughly recommend both Daniela and the walking food tour.

Cute and delicious food tour with amazing guide
This review is long overdue, but we wanted to share our wonderful experience on the "Crazy Cute & Kawaii Harajuku Food Tour" last November 2024. It ended up just being the tour guide, Wes, and our family: myself, my husband and 2 girls, ages 7 and 10. Wes was an amazing tour guide, giving us the history and cultural significance of the food we tried and teaching us about Japanese customs. He was very accommodating and flexible and geared the tour toward our interests. He took plenty of family photos of us which he shared with us after the trip. He even surprised us by stopping at a photo booth-type store at the end to take some cute family photos as a memento. We ate SO MUCH good food that day. We felt like we were touring the city with an old friend instead of being on a tour.

Cute Tokyo food tour
We had an amazing time on the Harajuku Kawaii Food Tour — a fun, colorful two-hour walk through the heart of Tokyo’s cutest neighborhood. From giant rainbow cotton candy and Japanese-style pizza, to creative onigiri, every stop had something surprising and really delicious. We also tried handmade sugar art candy, matcha ice cream, a dreamy matcha tiramisu, and the classic crepes Harajuku is known for. The food was not only super photogenic but genuinely tasty, balancing sweet and savory bites perfectly. Huge thanks to our guide Wesp, who was so kind, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience even more fun and memorable. Highly recommend if you’re looking to eat your way through Tokyo’s cutest street!

Great Shibuya food tour with Jane
We had a great 5 stop food tour with Jane in Shibuya, sushi tastes never tasted before, the best ramen ever an much more! Highly recommended!

Gion food tour
We did a food tour in Gion Kyoto. Our guide was very good. We had a difficult customer in our group and our guide handled the situation very calmly and professionally. The tour was interesting and food v, tasty. We did think it was a little on the expensive side though. A travellers tip- July is very very hot in Kyoto, take this into account if you are planning on doing any walking and take lots of water with you.

Great, flexible food tour in a vibrant lesser-known area of Osaka
Had a great time trying out some local specialties! We enjoyed all the food, and the experience of making Japanese Osaka-style pancakes was a delight. Our guide Russ was entertaining and extremely amenable to changing the itinerary, preemptively selecting highlights of both food and activities to give us the best Shinsekai has to offer.

Highly recommended fish market tour
“The tour was far more wide ranging than we’d expected it to be, starting with a delicious coffee, followed by a visit to an unfamiliar looking Buddhist temple and explanation of the land reclamation in the area. Breakfast in our own little booth in the market came next (plus learning a few Japanese phrases to express gratitude for food) and then an extended tour of the street stalls. Stall holders don’t generally like visitors holding up proceedings and taking photos, but were very happy to allow this when they saw our guide, who’s obviously known to them. We then visited a small temple beloved by the merchants. More street food samples continued (sweet omlette, salty snacks, flavoured sesame seeds) and visits to kitchen shops (where I was pleased to buy a matcha whisk!) Finally, we enjoyed a delicious picnic outside, but under cover, with the fresh produce our guide had bought en route. Clara was our lovely guide - she was very personable and friendly and we learned a lot about how she’d adjusted to life in Japan having arrived from Guatemala.”

An Insider's advantage
Our tour guide Jane met us at a local Coffee Shop where we started our Breakfast tour of Tusukiji Outer Markets with an award winning beverage at Turret Cafe. Jane was incredibly knowledgeable, spoke excellent English, and was extremely kind. She lead us to the market where we were immediately seated inside a small air-conditioned room in an inner market food stall. It was clear this area was for locals only and not a tourist hot spot. We would have never found it without her guidance. She ordered us a traditional Japanese breakfast of miso soup, grilled fish, pickled vegetables and rice. The food was incredible and sitting in a cool room when the temperature outside was 36C (97F) felt like a true luxury. From there Jane expertly lead us through inner and outer markets. She gloriously kept us mostly inside due to the extreme heat and purchased items like ikura, Anago, and Maguro. Jane paid attention to all our likes and dislikes. From uni to oysters she knew all the best places to procure our favorites. Once all the items were purchased she lead us to another air-conditioned spot on the roof where we had our "picnic" of curated delicacies. We finished with an incredible dessert of candied frozen fruit and traditional ice cream. I have seen reviews that say guides are a waste of time in this market but I could not disagree more. It was clear we had all the best there was to offer and as it was a busy, crowded, hot day, we felt very privileged to be lead by Jane.

Really enjoyed our food tour. Giula was a fabulous guide with helpful local knowledge. She gave us a great insight into Japanese history & culture & of course the food was amazing. Our favourite was the sashimi restaurant.

Food Glorious Food + History & Culture!
My family of 8 arrived in Tokyo about 24 hours before this tour began. We are a group of 3 generations with varied food preferences and walking paces. Ully did a great job of leading (herding?) us from place to place with grace and humor. We learned a lot, and we ate a lot of new and delicious foods. We highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in walking through a neighborhood and tasting food at places you might never find on your own. When else would we have tried Okinawan style food and have heard a folk song from Okinawa sung by the restaurant owner at the conclusion of our meal??? Also, our guide Ully spoke wonderful English, and she knows firsthand about the culture and history of Japan. She interspersed facts and stories as we ate and talked, it almost felt like a mobile dinner party by the end of the evening.
