This was my first time visiting Hawaii, and I was really looking forward to seeing Kualoa Ranch. We booked the Ultra E-Bike Tour primarily to take in the beautiful surroundings, but unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed and upset by the overall experience. Our day started early—we boarded the Kualoa Ranch shuttle from Waikiki at 6:45am and arrived at the ranch around 8:30am. I checked in at the bike desk at 8:45am and voiced my concerns about the difficulty level. The staff reassured me that after a test run, if anyone in our group couldn’t manage the mountain bike, we could switch to the novice tour. That gave me confidence to move forward. At 9:30am, we took the test ride. One of us wasn’t able to pass the test, so we were told to head to the front desk to switch tours. To our surprise, they told us everything else was sold out except for the Ocean Voyage and the Farm/Agriculture tour. I explained that I was assured we could switch to the novice biking option, but they said all sales are final and told us to “read the fine print.” We were offered only what was left—tours worth around $120—even though we had paid $450, including one-way transportation. They refused to offer a refund or even partial credit for the price difference. In the end, we did the Ocean Voyage, which was not what I came to the ranch to experience. I left feeling frustrated and honestly scammed. The ranch itself is beautiful, and the tours people were taking looked enjoyable. But the lack of flexibility, poor communication, and refusal to accommodate or even partially refund made it a very negative experience for us. I would have loved to come back, but after this, I won’t be returning.

The UTV tour was worth every penny and I was surprised that we got to drive for a solid 2 hours through the mountains. We saw so much and the hills were extreme which makes it really fun in a UTV. My whole family had the time of their life. The guides were hilarious and welcoming and gave us a lot of really neat history about ancient Hawaii.

My husband and I have enjoyed several tours at Kualoa Ranch in the past, but unfortunately, the Mālama Experience didn’t live up to our expectations. While we did enjoy getting into the kalo/taro patches and working with our hands, the overall experience felt unorganized and unprofessional. Aside from the short time in the taro patch, much of the tour involved being driven around the property without much added substance. We had two guides, but unfortunately, they didn’t seem very engaged or well-informed. Rather than sharing much about taro or the cultural importance of the work we were doing, most of the commentary focused on the different ahupuaʻa on the island, which felt somewhat off-topic for this experience. It also came across as unprofessional when the guides spent time chatting privately, checking their phones, or eating while we were on the bus. It would have been a nice if the guides had offered to take a few photos of us, since we weren’t able to use our phones/cameras while working in the taro patch. Sadly, we ended up without any photos from that experience. Partway through the tour, we were given a small taste of poi and local pineapple, though it seemed like those items may have been intended for a different tour, as the guides were being suspicious about it. At the end, we were also offered a sample of local chips, but by that point, we had already purchased a bag ourselves, so it felt more like an afterthought than part of the planned experience. We hope the Mālama tour can be improved with better organization, more knowledgeable and attentive guides, and a clearer focus on sharing the cultural significance of taro farming.

Awesome!! We did the Jurassic UTV tour with family. The views were absolutely breathtaking. If you want to be immersed in the island's natural beauty, this is a great place to visit. Tour guides were great, and shared a lot of history and fun facts about the ranch. The whole family had an awesome time.

This was our second time visiting the ranch. Our group (12yrs-72yrs) did the Movie Sites & Ranch tour. Everyone enjoyed the tour. Our guide did a great job and kept everyone engaged and entertained. Even though the weather wasn't perfect while we toured, it's very fun to put the movie backgrounds with a real, beautiful, location. Everything is very well coordinated, on-time and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

You can't go wrong. We have been here before but it is the type of place that once you have been here it draws you back. Truly a beautiful place.

A beautiful ranch with lots of crops and many filming scenes and props from American movies. At high altitudes, you can enjoy unparalleled sea views and the magnificent Hawaiian mountains. You must visit Hawaii once while you are still young.
