Private Château d'Yquem Anthology Experience from Bordeaux

Visit Château d'Yquem, the world's only Premier Cru Supérieur — a distinction awarded to no other property in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. For over four centuries, this legendary hilltop estate in the Sauternes appellation has produced the world's most celebrated sweet wine. The Anthology Experience represents one of the most exclusive ways to discover Yquem: a private guided estate tour followed by a comparative tasting of three exceptional vintages (2006, 2010, and 2016), each accompanied by culinary pairings prepared to complement the wines' extraordinary complexity.

auternes and the Art of Noble Rot

Sauternes wines owe their remarkable character to one of winemaking's most counterintuitive processes: Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot — a beneficial fungus that, under precisely the right climatic conditions, concentrates sugars, acids, and aromatic compounds to an extraordinary degree. Sauternes' unique microclimate proves perfectly suited to this delicate process: morning mists rising from the Ciron River encourage the fungus to develop on healthy grapes, while warm, dry afternoons arrest its spread and allow slow, controlled desiccation of the berries.

The result is wine of intense golden color, extraordinary sweetness, and remarkable complexity — with aromas of honeysuckle, acacia blossom, dried apricot, candied citrus, saffron, and honey that evolve over decades in bottle. Château d'Yquem produces its wine primarily from Sémillon, complemented by Sauvignon Blanc and smaller quantities of Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris. In the most exacting vintages, each vine produces only a single glass of wine — a reflection of the estate's uncompromising selection standards and legendary pursuit of perfection.

Your Private Anthology Tour and Tasting

Your experience begins with pickup from your Bordeaux accommodation and a scenic drive south through the Graves appellation into the rolling Sauternes vineyards. Upon arrival at Château d'Yquem, a dedicated estate ambassador welcomes you for a private guided tour of the property.

Walk through the historic vineyards to understand how the specific soils, slopes, and hilltop microclimate shape Yquem's singular style, then visit the vat room and atmospheric cellars to discover the rigorous berry-by-berry selection process, pressing techniques, and extended oak aging that underpin the estate's legendary wines.

The visit culminates in the Anthology Tasting — a rare comparative experience guided by your estate expert. Three exceptional vintages of Château d'Yquem are presented side by side: 2006, 2010, and 2016 — three distinct years, each expressing its own personality, aromatic evolution, and brilliance. Delicate culinary preparations are served alongside each wine to elevate the tasting and illustrate Yquem's remarkable versatility at the table, from foie gras and blue cheese to more unexpected pairings.

This unhurried, deeply informed tasting experience of a kind that simply does not exist elsewhere in Bordeaux reveals why Château d'Yquem remains the ultimate benchmark for sweet wine four centuries after its creation. Following the tasting, your driver-guide returns you to your Bordeaux accommodation.

We had a very fun day with Matt to Mont Saint-Mitchel. Matt is an excellent tour guide & he cared for his clients very much. He's an on time person. We learned a lot about the history of Saint-Mitchel via Matt. He made sure we have enough time browsing this beautiful UNESCO. We definitely recommend friends & family this tour. Thank you Matt

Pascal was, above all, a smiling whirlwind of energy from the very start — bursting with knowledge, passion, and just the right amount of dramatic flair. He painted the horror of the Omaha Beach invasion so vividly that we could practically hear the chaos, then marched us through the bunkers at Pointe du Hoc like we were on a mission ourselves. And before we even caught our breath, he had already catapulted us back to Bayeux at invasion speed. A legend in tour‑guide form. Thanks from Croatian Team😉

Our Normandy D-Day tour was well worth it and we so enjoyed our tour guide Matt. He made the tour engaging, entertaining and informative. The tour was just the right size and a half day was perfect for us. It would have been much harder to get around to the sites and understand each without the information that Matt was constantly sharing. There was hardly a time that Matt was not telling us what/how/when of what we were looking at. Thanks Matt!
