Big Disappointment

I was sorely disappointed with this trip. It started out poorly when the time for our initial meeting was changed by one hour with an additional request to show up 10 minutes early. Then the group leaders came late and had us fill out a form that could have been left for us upon arrival, wasting another half hour of my time. Joelle was offensive from the start. I should have cancelled right there and then. I found Joelle offensive, inconsiderate and unaccommodating. He did not know who his clients were. He was more concerned with his accompanying staff and the vendors we visited than with us. My daughter was sick, and yet no accommodations were made. We never had dinner as it was far too late in the evening and then we had to wake up at 5 am every morning. The second night “hut” place was ugly, dirty, noisy and depressing. I almost killed myself on the staircase going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The toilets were gross. After that night we decided to leave the trek. We told Joelle first thing in the morning. Still, the leaders dilly dallied so we missed the train, they didn’t give us any information about improving our Machu Picchu tickets, and the restaurant they chose for our final meal together was poorly rated, loud, ugly and clearly just a spot they picked to give someone they knew the business. BAD CHOICES!!!!! Our drop off at Cuzco at the end of the trip was a fiasco. My luggage was damaged, no one had our bags ready, people were nasty and everyone was rushed. Really? This is how they run their business? Ridiculous. They have a lot to learn about customer service!! If this were an American business, I’d insist on a complete reimbursement of my money. I’m so disappointed and consider this one of the worst travel experiences of my life (I’ve been to over 57 countries). They should not be in business.

Great Choquequirao trek

Great trip. Amazing to experience Choquequirao alone with the Condors. The trek there is demanding but beautiful. Luxury to end the trip in MachPicchu. David was an excellent guide.

Perfect experience on the Choquequirao Trek

We had the best time on our Choquequirao trek. Our Guide was Sebastian and we were accompanied by the great chefs Beto and Moises as well as the horse woman Rosa. We did the trek in 5 days and had plenty of time to explore the Inca city. The hike itself is very beautiful, yet sometimes challenging due to the steep passages in and out of the canyon. Sebastian was very knowledgeable and could share a lot of facts about the the environment and the history. The rest of the crew did also an fantastic job. The meals were extremely delicious. Additionally, eating vegetarian wasn’t a problem at all. We can highly recommend the Choquequirao Trek, if you want to do a trekking trip without tourists masses. TreXperience is the perfect company. We can only recommend everyone from the crew.

5 day 4 night 60km trek to Choquequirao

We just got back from an incredible 5 day / 4 night private trek to Choquequirao. We wanted to trek away from the crowds of Machu Picchu, and we found exactly what we were looking for. We had a team of 4: G (our guide), Esteban (head chef), Feliciano (assistant chef), and Henry (our porter and horseman). They made the entire experience unforgettable. G met us the night before at our hotel in Cuzco to walk us through what to expect, and the next morning they picked us up right on time at 4:30 a.m. for the 4-hour drive to the trailhead. When we got there, Esteban and Feliciano made us a delicious hot breakfast, and that set the tone for the week — we ate so well. And the views from breakfast were like being in a scene from The Sound of Music. Every single day felt special. G was an incredible guide — so knowledgeable on the Inca culture and history. He was super patient and encouraging, especially on the tougher hiking days (looking at you day 2 with switchbacks all the way up!), and always made sure we had water and whatever we needed. We felt really taken care of. Henry was such a hard worker. Every morning started with warm water to wash our faces and hot tea delivered to our tent (which were a luxury!). He worked so hard, always with a smile, and was just a lovely presence to have around. While we had breakfast, Henry would take down our tent, another luxury and everyday after we finished our hike and came to our new campsite, our tent would be up and Henry would deliver hot water to us to clean up immediately and refresh ourselves. Note: You do not need to bring any of your own snacks on this trip! Esteban and Feliciano were the BEST chef and assistant chef one could hope for. The meals were healthy, colorful, full of fresh veggies and fruit — and there were fun surprises too, like fresh donuts at tea time and even a cake with “Peru” written in icing. They seriously thought of everything. We never went hungry — breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea time, snacks for the hike — they kept us full and happy the entire time. When we travel, we usually travel to eat and explore the local culture that way, but on a Trek of this sort, we weren't expecting to eat so well. This was a delightful surprise, I was obsessed with our team, and our chefs made our morning, noon and night. One of the highlights was the traditional Peruvian BBQ on the final day — such a fun way to end the trip. And maybe the most amazing part: they hiked two hours to meet us inside Choquequirao with a private picnic. Having a team so dedicated to making your trip special left us speechless. TreXperience is incredibly lucky to have this team. We felt supported, cared for, and totally spoiled the entire week. If you’re thinking about doing this trek — go, and ask for G, Esteban, Feliciano, and Henry. You’ll be in the best hands.
