Phenomenal birdwatching day trip
If you are a birder, I can’t recommend this tour enough. My guide was Nataly. She was knowledgeable about spotting birds by sight and sound. Also, she was very enthusiastic, nice, and always smiling. She asked if our driver could accompany us us on the walk. Of course, I said yes. And German (driver’s name) ended up spotting some birds that I had missed. The national park was in a dense fog when I visited, but we could still spot birds in the trees and brush. The trails are slippery and steep, but I enjoyed the workout. We went to a refuge for lunch, but the cost of the lunch is not included. Nataly brought a good pair of binoculars that I could use. While we were eating, we spotted two more bird species! The tour ended up being 11 hours long because of the traffic in Bogota. Expect to spend hours in the car, but German was a very safe driver. I am so appreciative that I got to add 22 species to my life list. I did not expect to be solo, but no one else had signed up for the trip but me and so I had a private guide. I will remember this outing for years to come!
Phenomenal bird watching in the National Park
This was a fantastic day trip out of Bogota. My guide was Nataly and she knew how to ID birds by sight and sound. She also had a guidebook to refer to. We saw 22 species, which were all new to me. Nataly was very nice, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. Her spoken English was exceptional. In addition, Nataly asked if our driver (named German) could accompany us on the walk. Of course I said yes, and he ended up spotting birds that I had just walked past. Nataly brought a pair of binoculars that I could use. We hiked down to a refuge where we ate lunch (not included in tour price). We sat outside at the refuge and spotted two more birds while we were eating! The trails in the park can be very challenging and steep. Wear nonslip shoes and bring rain gear. When I was there, it was foggy, but we could still see birds in the brush and trees. If it was a sunny day, there are some magnificent cliffs to view. I did not expect to be alone. I thought it was going to be a group but it was just the three of us hiking in the national park . The day ended up being 11 hours long because of the traffic in Bogota. Plan to spend a lot of time in the car because of the traffic. German was a very safe driver. But at least you get to see a large portion of Bogota. I highly recommend this trip if you are interested in birds.
Great day of birding including Bogota Rail
We had a lovely day with Diego in Chicaque. A few stops in advance yielded some great birds, including the rare Bogota Rail at a wetland. Diego was knowledgeable and helpful as we walked down and then up the trail at Chicaque, seeing hummingbirds, a Toucanet and other Colombian bird on the way.
A really excellent day...
A really excellent day out with a very pleasant and knowledgeable guide with excellent English. Perfect of you're looking for someone to get you to the right place, understanding that the guide is not a specialist birding guide.
Great birding at Chicaque NP
I had a great bird guide, Leslie, to Chicaque NP. A very relaxed tour, beautiful forest, and lots of birds among which Chestnut-crowned ant pitta, Summer tanager, and many more ...
