Travel through the countryside of the Occitanie region before arriving at the famous walled city, surrounded by double ramparts and dozens of watchtowers. During your visit, stroll through the narrow medieval streets, admire the impressive fortifications and learn about the strategic role Carcassonne played during centuries of regional conflicts. Your guide shares the history of the citadel, from its Roman origins to its medieval development and later restoration in the 19th century. This tour offers a fascinating introduction to one of the most iconic historic landmarks in southern France.
Discover the Medieval City of Carcassonne
Located about one hour from Toulouse, the fortified city of Carcassonne is one of the most famous historical landmarks in France. The citadel stands on a hill overlooking the Aude River and has been inhabited since ancient times.
A UNESCO World Heritage Fortress
The Cité de Carcassonne is surrounded by nearly 3 km of fortified walls and more than 50 towers, forming one of the largest and best-preserved medieval fortresses in Europe.
Its outstanding architecture and preservation led to its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Walk Through Medieval Streets
During the visit, travelers can explore the narrow cobbled streets inside the fortified city, admire stone houses and discover monuments such as the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire and the Comtal Castle.
A Fortress with a Long History
Carcassonne has been occupied since Roman times and later became an important stronghold during the Middle Ages. The citadel was extensively restored in the 19th century by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, whose work helped preserve the site we admire today.

Reviews
Great experience, guide was super knowledgeable and friendly. Victor brought us around the different sites and showed us so many cool sites
Alex was the most experienced, knowledgeable, and chilled tour guide of all the 5 tour guides we experienced. We learned a lot from him about the culture, history, and geology of the region. He also provided great context to understand the regions' wines. This tour to Cassis and the calanques was beautiful and would get a 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that this expensive tour did not include lunch. The wine tasting was good but I had better in Bordeaux and it included lunch.
Matt was an awesome tour guide. His passion for D-day made the experience that much better. He was very knowledgeable. Even my children were glued to his every word. Great experience!
