Private Auxois Villages from Dijon
Discover the storybook villages of the Auxois region on a private day trip from Dijon, travelling in comfort with your own English‑speaking guide. Your itinerary focuses on three of Burgundy’s most picturesque hilltop towns, with plenty of time in each place to wander, take photos and enjoy the atmosphere at your own pace.
Flavigny‑sur‑Ozerain – Plus Beau Village
Your first stop is Flavigny‑sur‑Ozerain, officially listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France.” Stroll its cobbled lanes lined with stone houses, discover the Benedictine abbey and the famous Anis de Flavigny candy heritage, and see why this perched village has even starred as the setting for the film “Chocolat.”
Semur‑en‑Auxois – Medieval Stronghold
Continue to Semur‑en‑Auxois, a dramatic medieval town set on a pink‑granite promontory above the Armançon River. Walk past Gothic towers, ramparts and the collegiate church, and enjoy sweeping views from the old walls that still protect the historic center. Your guide shares stories of festivals, battles and daily life that bring the town’s centuries‑old streets to life.
Châteauneuf‑en‑Auxois – Hilltop Fortress Village
The day ends in Châteauneuf‑en‑Auxois, another officially classified “Most Beautiful Village of France,” wrapped around its imposing 15th‑century fortress. From this hilltop, admire wide views over the Auxois plain and Burgundy Canal, explore stone houses and alleys, and, if you wish, visit the château to learn more about Burgundy’s ducal history.
A Relaxed, Tailor‑Made Day
Across roughly nine hours, your guide adapts the pace to your interests, whether that is history, architecture, photography or simply soaking up village cafés and viewpoints. Reviews
This is a concise tour to whet your appetite for further discovery of the wonders of the Dordogne and its glorious landscape and culinary delights.. Anne was a marvelous and knowledgeable guide who speaks several languages fluently (French, English and Spanish at least). I am grateful to her for waiting for me to escape the hold of the ghost of King Richard the Lionhearted at the Château de Beynac.
(Translated by Google) A lovely tour of the Dordogne castles, beautiful views, and a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, thank you Ana. (Original) Un precioso tour por los castillos de la Dordoña, lindas vistas, y una guía muy simpática y conocedora del lugar, gracias Ana.
Great day trip from Strasbourg. Our guide was personable and informative and we were taken to three smaller family wineries where the owner/family member conducted a fulsome and friendly tasting. Also a nice break for lunch in a picturesque town. Definitely recommend for a chance to see the countryside and get a better sense of Alsatian wines.
