Full description

Experience the charm of Bordeaux with a personalized private shore excursion from Pauillac. On this unique journey, you’ll take a guided walking tour through the city, marvel at its stunning architecture, and dive into its rich history.

With a licensed tour guide leading the way, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture while enjoying free time for wine tasting and a leisurely lunch. Travel comfortably in a fully equipped, air-conditioned minivan and soak in the beauty of Bordeaux, all while enjoying the flexibility of a tailor-made experience perfect for your group.

Your shore excursion begins with pickup directly at the Pauillac cruise port, where your guide welcomes you at the ship and settles you into a comfortable, air‑conditioned vehicle for the scenic drive along the estuary to Bordeaux. As you travel, your guide introduces the city’s past and the major landmarks you will discover together.

Begin in Quinconces Square
On arrival, your first stop is Place des Quinconces, one of Europe’s largest squares and a powerful symbol of Bordeaux. Laid out on the former site of Château Trompette, once a key defensive fortress on the Garonne River, the square is now home to the dramatic Monument aux Girondins and statues of Montesquieu and Montaigne, illustrating Bordeaux’s political and intellectual heritage.

Discover Bordeaux’s Golden Triangle
You then continue on foot into the elegant “Golden Triangle”, framed by grand boulevards including Cours de l’Intendance. At its heart lies Place de la Comédie, where the Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux faces the magnificent Grand Théâtre, an 18th‑century masterpiece designed by Victor Louis, also architect of the Comédie‑Française in Paris. Your guide explains how this district showcases Bordeaux’s 18th‑century prosperity and recent renaissance.

Riverfront, Landmarks, and Free Time
Next, you stroll towards the Garonne riverfront and Place de la Bourse, with its famous Miroir d’Eau reflecting the classical façades. Other highlights include Saint‑André Cathedral, Pey‑Berland Square and Tower, and lively Rue Sainte‑Catherine, one of Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping streets. After this guided walk, you enjoy free time for lunch and independent exploration. Your guide can recommend wine bars where you can taste local appellations such as Saint‑Émilion, Médoc, Pessac‑Léognan or Sauternes, as well as family‑run bistros serving traditional southwest French cuisine.

Return to Pauillac Cruise Port
At the agreed time, you meet your guide again and relax on the return drive to Pauillac, arriving back at the pier in good time for your ship’s departure. You are dropped off at the gangway after a seamless Bordeaux shore excursion that starts and ends at your cruise ship.

Alex was the most experienced, knowledgeable, and chilled tour guide of all the 5 tour guides we experienced. We learned a lot from him about the culture, history, and geology of the region. He also provided great context to understand the regions' wines. This tour to Cassis and the calanques was beautiful and would get a 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that this expensive tour did not include lunch. The wine tasting was good but I had better in Bordeaux and it included lunch.
