Private Bordeaux Cruise Walking Tour

Discover Bordeaux, the “Sleeping Beauty,” on a private walking tour crafted for cruise passengers, revealing why the city is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an official City of Art and History. Explore one of Europe’s finest ensembles of 18th‑century architecture with your own accredited, English‑speaking guide.

Meet Your Guide at the Ship

Your tour begins with pick up at your cruise ship in Bordeaux. Meet your licensed English‑speaking guide, who will review the itinerary and adapt it to your interests before you set off on foot toward the historic city center.

Golden Triangle – Elegance and Wine Wealth

Start in the elegant Golden Triangle, framed by Cours Georges‑Clemenceau, Cours de l’Intendance and Allées de Tourny. Here, Bordeaux’s wealthiest merchants and financiers built grand private mansions, turning the district into a showcase of stone façades, ornate balconies and luxury boutiques, while your guide explains how the wine trade fueled this golden age.

Grand Théâtre – Temple of the Arts

Continue to Place de la Comédie, framed by the Grand Hôtel and the Grand Théâtre. Admire the neoclassical portico of twelve Corinthian columns designed by Victor Louis and topped by statues of the Muses and goddesses of Classical mythology. Inaugurated in 1780 and now home to the Opéra National de Bordeaux, the Grand Théâtre is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

Place de la Bourse and Miroir d’Eau

Walk toward the Garonne River to reach Place de la Bourse, often considered Bordeaux’s most beautiful façade. Learn how this former royal square, now centered on the Fountain of the Three Graces and the Miroir d’Eau, symbolises the city’s close relationship with its river and maritime trade, and enjoy guidance to the best photo vantage points.

Palais Rohan and Saint‑André Cathedral

Nearby, discover the Palais Rohan, an 18th‑century palace now serving as Bordeaux’s Town Hall, hiding one of the most remarkable staircases in France behind its Louis XVI‑style façade. Facing the palace, the Cathedral of Saint‑André and the Pey‑Berland Tower form another highlight, where your guide can explain the city’s religious and political history.

Flexible Themes and Personalized Ending

Because this is a private tour with a licensed guide, the route can be adjusted to include areas such as the Chartrons district, historically linked to the wine trade, or to focus on specific themes like architecture, history, or everyday Bordeaux life. At the end of the tour, your guide can escort you back to the ship or leave you in the city center with tailored suggestions for further exploration, cafés and wine bars to enjoy on your own.

Alex, our guide, is incredibly knowledgeable about wine and the wine making process. We thoroughly relished his expertise and delighted in the choices of the two wineries we visited. The first, Mas de Cadenet, is a family owned winery; it began in 1813. The second winery was Domaine Jas Monges, which after 70 years and four generations later, went from winegrowers to winemakers. It was a wonderful morning and we enjoyed it immensely.
