Traveler reviews
This was a great...
This was a great experience. My guide was very friendly and very knowledgeable on the history of the area. He also helped me take lot's of great pictures. Highly recommend.
Quite the experience!
This experience was pretty good. We throughly enjoyed the tour of the convent. The views are spectacular for sure. It would have been nice to stay a bit longer, but our tour guide kinda hinted that we should move on. In that regard, Carlos was an excellent tour guide and spoke English well. I’m sure he was on a timeline. The Bazurto Market was an experience. It’s not for the weak of heart as he took us into the “real” market where the locals shop for fruits, meats and fish. It is truly sensory overload. I found it interesting and eye opening while my spouse didn’t like it too much and was ready to leave. We got to pick where we wanted lunch, and these local vendors make you “taste test” what they have to offer in hopes that you will order something from them. We had the fish, chicken with rice. We took it to go and ate it back at our hotel room. It was delicious. If your thinking that lunch will be in a proper restaurant etc, think again. All in all. Good tour, maybe a bit costly for what you actually see and do. We were back at our hotel by 1200pm after a 945am pickup
Bazurto Market & Convent
The convent and the history we learned was excellent. Our tour guide Jhon and driver David were both excellent! Jhon took us to a place for lunch and the food was flavorful and fresh. I gave a lower star 🌟 only because the market was pretty empty!! We didn't get to taste any food like fruits or local breads, etc. The cost of the tour I specifically thought the market would be full of fresh fish, fruits, breads, rice and local cooking!! The meal we had was great, but in a restaurant within Buzarto Market. It was all inclusive, so lunch and admission to the convent was all taken care of with the tour package.
The best of Cartegena
This is a look inside the wonderful people of Cartegena. The market open 24/7 is where to shop for anything to eat to dance and party. Our guides gave personal attention and safety suggestions and were always there to answer any question. They were the best!
History and Nitty Gritty
This tour combines history with the Convent part of the tour and a very real window into local culture with Bazurto Market. The market is a dark maze of stalls and having a guide is a must! The section with meats, fish and prepared foods will be shocking to some, but we didn’t linger there. The tour ended with a three course lunch at a clean vendor that the tour company obviously had a relationship with. I personally could have passed on eating here but it felt right to support this small local business. One of the things I found most fascinating was some of the non food stands with potions and figurines for luck and black magic.
