L'Eixample was designed by Ildefons Cerdà after 1895 , to expand the city. (The word “Eixample” actually means “expansion” in Catalan). Crossing the streets of this elegant neighborhood, you will remark that Cerdà’s idea of urban planning was revolutionary and utopian. This was Barcelona´s 19th-century answer to the overcrowding of the medieval city and Gaudi´s favorite neighborhood to work in. In Eixample, you will pass by some of his most spectacular works, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Casa Batlló and Casa Milà.

Good Tour & Be Vigilant

Our tour guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and spoke beyond the history of the best of Barcelona. We were on a private tour - - just my husband and I. Therefore, we learned about Barcelona’s finest historical buildings up close and personal. What we also experienced was Barcelona’s worst - - thieves! These young men are around, acting like tourists but were ready you pounce on you. That’s exactly what happened to us. One young man grabbed my husband’s watch and my husband was hurt during the ordeal. We tried running after the thief but they obviously train to rob people. The tour was great. Still do it if you’d like learn the best highlight of Barcelona. But be vigilant, very cautious. Regardless you do a tour, a private tour or on your own, be vigilant! Don’t wear any watch, don’t wear backpacks, carry your purse or bag in front of your body, or take preventive measures. They are watching you, while you are focused in looking at history. It was a very sad experience for us. Even the police (on the streets, on the square, and the police station) cannot do anything because there was no “crime”. As this is what they told us. Our tour guide helped us along the way and we stopped to at least five police teams and they all shook their heads that nothing can be done.

Best Barcelona Bike Tour

Stephanie’s expert knowledge and passion for architecture made this the perfect tour for our needs. Highly recommend as she took us to all of the places we requested and more. A tour and tour guide extraordinaire!

Beautiful afternoon

Alfredo was a skilled, smart, and engaging tour leader. He was so patient and told great stories. Good ride on mostly flat surfaces through diverse areas of the city. Alfredo even gave us extra time for the tour. I would do this again but I would want a smaller group. 15 was too large when considering the traffic lights and varying skill levels of the participants.

Great sightseeing and biking experience

Barcelona is a big city. There’s so much to see on all fronts - beach, old city, new city, Olympic/FC stadium. This tour covers many spots in the beach/old/new city from the beach front to Olympic sculptures to Cascada fountain to Arc De Triomf arch to City centre to Gothic quarter. We got a very good overview through this biking tour. Our tour guide was very friendly and explained all the attractions and city culture in detail. We walked to the beach the day after the tour on our own and could relate to all the information from the tour.
