Full description

Experience the sweet side of Austin on this walking tour through the iconic South Congress district, known locally as SoCo. This fun tour takes you along one of the city's most famous streets, lined with colorful murals, local shops, live music venues, and the kind of laid-back energy Austin is known for. Along the way, you'll sample a variety of treats that highlight the diverse flavors of the city.

We begin with creative, handcrafted donuts before strolling past some of South Congress's most recognizable sights, including vibrant murals and street art that capture Austin's playful spirit, several of them popular enough to have their own dedicated lines of visitors waiting to take photos. As we explore the neighborhood, you'll enjoy a mix of sweet and savory bites including classic Texas kolaches, a pastry brought to the state by Czech immigrants in the 1800s, crispy cinnamon sugar churros, and refreshing gelato or ice cream to cool off in the Texas sun.

Along the route, your guide will share stories about the history of South Congress and how this once-quiet corridor, largely overlooked for much of the twentieth century, transformed into one of Austin's most sought-after cultural districts. You'll learn about the music, food, and artistic energy that helped shape the city's famous Keep Austin Weird identity, all while taking in views of historic buildings, local boutiques, and lively patios.

This tour is a great way to explore South Congress while tasting some of the best sweet treats the neighborhood has to offer. First-time visitors get an easy introduction to the neighborhood, and longtime locals usually walk away with a new favorite stop or two. Come hungry and get ready for a fun, flavorful walk through one of Austin's most beloved streets.

The tour was quite long and it was difficult to keep the kids engaged. The donut store was the best stop where we got to choose a donut. At the rest of the stops the food items were pre ordered and we didn’t get a choice which was a bit disappointing. I was also unhappy that the tour ended at a different location to the starting point - we were handed a map and had to find our own way back. Having never been to Cork before, this wasn’t particularly easy and we had to run to catch our train back to Cobh.

Kat was a great guide. The donuts were delicious and she also included a lot of history of Toronto. The walk was an easy pace and gave us time to prepare for the next round. She provided us with other places to taste Toronto food and there was time to grab some of that food too. We loved the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Toronto!
