Your Harvard Square donut adventure begins in the lobby of the Charles Hotel, a hotel that captivates guests with its distinctive New England aesthetic and its curated collection of local art, not to mention its delicious rotating donut flavors made with the freshest ingredients sourced directly from New England. With a warm cup of coffee in hand, we’ll set the stage for our journey, sharing the rich history of Harvard Square, a hub of intellectual and cultural life for over 300 years. From its early days as a colonial settlement to its role as a vibrant center of learning and innovation, the Square has countless stories to tell.

Our first donut stop is a nearby bakery celebrated for its oversized donuts and inventive flavors. As you indulge in these sweet creations, we’ll delve into the role of Harvard Square in shaping Cambridge’s culinary scene, where long-standing traditions blend seamlessly with bold, modern tastes.

Next, we’ll visit another donut shop renowned for its artful take on this classic treat. Each bite here reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and flavor, mirroring the creative energy that permeates the surrounding area. Along the way, we’ll explore the architectural beauty of the Square, from its historic brick buildings to the storied paths that have welcomed students, scholars, and visitors from around the world.

The tour concludes at Saloniki Greek, where we’ll finish with a sweet treat of loukoumades, crispy, golden Greek donuts drizzled with honey. While savoring these delightful bites, we’ll reflect on the global influences that have shaped Harvard Square’s identity, making it a microcosm of the broader world.

The tour was quite long and it was difficult to keep the kids engaged. The donut store was the best stop where we got to choose a donut. At the rest of the stops the food items were pre ordered and we didn’t get a choice which was a bit disappointing. I was also unhappy that the tour ended at a different location to the starting point - we were handed a map and had to find our own way back. Having never been to Cork before, this wasn’t particularly easy and we had to run to catch our train back to Cobh.

Kat was a great guide. The donuts were delicious and she also included a lot of history of Toronto. The walk was an easy pace and gave us time to prepare for the next round. She provided us with other places to taste Toronto food and there was time to grab some of that food too. We loved the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Toronto!
