Arctic Adventures 7 Day Ring Road tour of Iceland

My wife and I had the pleasure of taking the 7 day ring road tour with Arctic Adventures 11 March through 17 March, 2026. Our tour included transportation, lodging and breakfast throughout the 7days. We were very fortunate to have Bjorn as our tour guide. I am sure that Arctic Adventures had many qualified and skilled guides, but I assure you Bjorn was top tier. He is blessed with both knowledge and wisdom. Bjorn consistently monitored the tour group for capabilities, desires and ensured our safety throughout. He explained how quickly the weather can change in Iceland and it is real. During our trip there were a couple things we could not do as the access roads were closed. During our trip though the north we traveled though white out conditions yet we never felt unsafe with Bjorn’s leadership and skill. He was able to use his contacts to get weather and accessibility conditions prior to our arrival in areas of concern. The ring road tour comes with high recommendations if you want to maximize your trip to Iceland. Our tour group was international with 3 Indonesians, 3 Japanese, 2 Canadians, one Columbian and 4 from the US. Half of our group booked the seventh day tour to Snaefellsnes. This tour was to join 4 others as a day tour. When our new tour guide picked us up she alerted us to weather issues in the Snaefellsnes region. After conferring with other guides it was decided the conditions were unsafe due to extreme wind. As a result the last day of our tour was canceled. Though disappointed we were thankful that Arctic Adventures takes safety seriously. For four days in a row we were able to see the Northern lights. Our tour took us to a remote area for a stay at a Wilderness Center. The remote location provided the best display of aurora borealis including both green and red displays. We saw geysers, majestic waterfalls, glaciers inside and out, black beaches and the list goes on. All lodging was comfortable and clean. Breakfasts are of European design and we never left hungry. Bjorn, our guide, stopped on a regular bases for bathroom breaks and to stretch our legs. Meal costs are high but one must remember Iceland is an island and most things are shipped to the island. As recommended we dress in several layers including a top layer that was water and wind proof. This worked well as we were able to shed layers while traveling in the van. The van was a Mercedes with four wheel drive that had studded winter tires for our trip. Those features came in handy on several mountain passes in the north of Iceland as we traveled on ice covered roads with snow blowing sideways. We experienced both sleet and snow during our March trip. Temperatures seemed to be in the 30’s (F) but the very strong wind at times showed the need for hats and gloves. Crampons and helmets were provided by Arctic Adventures for the Glacier/Ice cave tour. All in our tour group had also brought their own crampons and we sued them on several occasions during the trip. We did see others on other tours that wished they had brought crampons as well. We did enjoy touring in March as it provided an opportunity to see the Northern Lights, the snow provided a visual contrast with the Lava areas and the falls as we moved north had partially frozen. The glacial melt rivers are an incredible aquamarine color this time of year before excessive melt brings down sediments. March also provided reduced crowds, this became even more evident the further we went from Reykjavik. Bottom line is I highly recommend the Arctic Adventures ring road tour if you want to maximize your Iceland experience.

Trip of a Lifetime on the Ring Road

Our 7 day Ring road tour was incredible. The country of Iceland has some beautiful scenery, but the guide on our trip, Starri, made this the trip of a lifetime, Since he is a local Icelander with deep family roots here, he was able to add local tales to each and every spot. He had entire books of famous Icelandic stories and poems on the bus, and shared many folktales and history. It was obvious he has a passion for his lovely country and was so anxious to share all of it with our group. I learned so much about this beautiful country , the people and heritage. The actual travel on the ring road had so many beautiful and incredible sights, and he presented each one with enthusiasm and I finished each day excited to see what the next day would hold. Your company has wonderful accommodation choices it provides and Starri made sure we got to each one safely and efficiently. We had one full day of snow and I had complete confidence in his ability to get us to each and every destination. Starri truly made this tour the trip of a lifetime.

Small group tour

The tour was really good. For the price, I believe it was worth it. Our tour bus only consisted of 11 people so it was comfortable. Our guide Starri was very kind and knowledgeable. He had a lot of stories to share and this made the tour more enjoyable. He answered any question anyone had and he was willing to go out of the way to show us other spots along the way as long as time permits. For the last day, the day tour to Snaefellsnes, our guide Ottar also made our trip fun and easy going. The day was jam packed but it was fun nonetheless. Overall the tour was really nice and I enjoyed my trip a lot. Thank you Starri, Ottar and Bus Travel Iceland!

Unexpected and very nice

I had never taken a tour, I was really a little nervous, but it was a small tour that helped me get to know everyone who travels on the tour and certainly from our HBO guide made me really enjoy this tour. Definitely a great way to get to know Iceland and check in my bucketlist
