Nice 1-day tour

Guide Dooley was great. Very kind and attentive and really trying to get us to all the sites worth seeing. The only thing I wish would change would be giving us more time for lunch.

Epic snaefellsnes tour with Alain!

Alain is the best guide ever. He is full of knowledge and energy. It’s amazing how he is able to tell us interesting stories, and drive, and be patient with everyone, for an entire day (11 hours!). And very kind throughout. When someone has a passion for their life and job (Alain is Dutch but has been in Iceland for 6 years and has learned all about the Icelandic language and their “sagas”/stories, as well as the local geology, history, and food) it gives you the great opportunity to soak up the local culture through them. That’s exactly how I felt throughout the tour. Highly recommended! Also, specifically for the Snaefellsnes tour, I have to say the location is epic. The landscapes and geology are unlike anything I’ve seen before—it was almost like being on the moon—and so I’m glad I picked this one over some of the other destinations. For this tour, the only thing you need to be aware of is the length. Public service announcement: This is an ALL DAY tour. You will get back to Reykjavik at 8:30-9pm or so. Therefore, you should be flexible with your evening plans if you have any. I had no problem with this because I can read, however I think some people did not fully internalize the length in advance.

Too much and too long

This is nice, but too much: too many stops, sometimes just for some not so interesting church or the supermarket just at the start (people could have taken their coffee with them in the city). The whole trip is too long and exhausting, it would have been better if there were less things to see, but more time when it’s really interesting. And a lunch break without stress would be fun. The guide talks too much. Not every stone or school deserves attntion. People are visible exhausted, many of us are jet-lagger and some peace would have been highly appreciated, just to try to catch some slee. However, during the whole day there was hardly a period without the guide talking. Sometimes it was useful, but many times it was just a story about village people building their first toiliets or whatever.

Wonderful experience - Alain is an excellent guide!

This was an incredible tour, packed with sights and information. At first we wondered whether driving ourselves was a better idea, but it only took about 30 mins on the bus with Alain to realize that booking the tour was definitely the way to go. Ours was a small van of maybe 15-17 people. We covered A LOT in 11 hours. But in particular, we were very lucky because our guide, Alain, had a wealth of knowledge and did a fabulous job explaining what we were seeing, what to look for, the history and lore of the region, the geology, and economy of the area. We learned so much! And the landscapes are breathtaking—wonderful and odd. While the tour is objectively long (close to 12 hrs), the amount of walking is limited and thus very doable for almost anyone. The bus is very comfortable in between stops. There is a stop shortly after leaving Reykjavik at a gas station, where one can buy snacks. But we also briefly stopped in two more places where one can purchase lunch and a snack. A wonderful option, especially for travelers eager to see a lot in a limited amount of time.
