An Unforgettable Westfjords Experience with Mónika

Exploring the Westfjords was already breathtaking, but Mónika made the journey truly exceptional. She was warm, humorous, and kind, while also deeply knowledgeable and a wonderful storyteller. Her thoughtfulness stood out in countless ways, from going out of her way to wash the minibus twice so we could enjoy the views clearly, to following up with travelers even after they had moved on to other Nicetravel tours. Mónika made me feel genuinely cared for throughout the trip, and it’s rare to encounter that level of dedication. Thanks to her, we will remember not just the beauty of the Westfjords, but also the kindness and thoughtfulness of Mónika herself.

Westfjords - the Splendor of Iceland!

I’m so happy I decided to include the Westfjords into my first trip to Iceland. When researching for my trip, I kept hearing people mention how they either wish they had been able to go, or budgeted more time for them. The Westfjords are GORGEOUS and very different from the scenery of the Golden Circle and South Coast. Our guide was originally from the area, and even took us to his family’s fjord and gravestones! Quaint towns right in the lowlands between towering cliffs, you really feel the remoteness of some of these settlements. Note there is a significant amount of driving involved, as the roads wind in and out of and over the fjords so manage your expectations. That being said, the stops are worth it! Not to mention the scenic driving. I would highly recommend this tour for first timers.

NiceTravel left us feeling great about our time in Iceland. Westfjords were absolutely dreamy!

There are a lot of different ways to explore Iceland. You can rent RVs, cars, or camper vans and explore on your own, but for a more structured and relaxing first visit (I say first because you will want to go back), I can't recommend a tour with NiceTravel enough. We booked a five-day tour that took us through the Golden Circle, South Coast, and Westfjords, and it was worth every penny. Our guides, Mika, Vlad, and David, were highly knowledgeable and confident on the roads. Being confident is essential in this case; the weather conditions, wind specifically, don't mess around. The buses being equipped with Wifi was a godsend for us, as we didn't set up an international eSIM for data and texting. Accommodations were what we expected, and in the case of Hotel Breidavik, blew us away completely.  The Gold Circle was everything you read about. Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir) was a gorgeous monument to the ebbs and flows of our planet's eons-long life cycle. Geysir was a joy to see, but Strokkur is the geyser that's currently active. Pictures don't do the sheer power of Gullfoss justice. The Golden Waterfall is a violent display of water's ability to cut canyons into a landscape. Kerið (Kerith) is a beautiful crater whose serene visage belies the violent action that created it.  The South Coast (like much of Iceland) continued to put nature's raw power front and center. We loved seeing Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi, and Skogafoss (GOT fans rejoice), but the glacier hike was an absolute highlight of the trip. Getting to venture onto Sólheimajökull, crampons strapped and icepick in hand, was like exploring another planet entirely. Don't think about it; do it. You'll be glad you did. The only thing I'll say is to pay attention to the guide. Our group had a couple of dummies who didn't follow directions very well.  We decided to forgo exploring the rest of the South Coast and spend three days in the Westfjords, and we are so glad we did! If you're unaware, Fjords are long, narrow, deep sea inlets between high cliffs formed by glaciers. It's a way out from Reykjavik, so we were on the bus for a while. Despite that, I didn't reach for my phone to pass the time. The magnitude of the natural beauty surrounding us was intense. I happily gazed out the window for most of the ride. I'd have been happy with that, but the stops were also excellent (I'm a big fan of Dynjandi). It's less touristy than the Golden Circle, South Coast, or much of the country. It was VERY remote, allowing us to stop and enjoy the moment much more. It would be a mistake to pass on such a beautiful area before the influencers figure it out and ruin it for us all.  Overall, I can't recommend NiceTravel enough. They're exceptional, and I'm grateful we were advised to book with them. 12/10 stars. We will absolutely be booking with them when (not if) we return. Hopefully, we'll ride with David, Mika, or Vlad again.

Absolutely FANTASTIC!

This tour is an absolute MUST do. The West Fjords are absolutely stunning. We had the wonderful Nicola for our tour guide, she was kind, patient, full of energy and positivity, she was very clear and concise on timings, the plan and what we were doing next. She always did her best to accommodate all requests and we had some extra stops and we even spotted whales in the fjords three different times which we had extra stops to watch for them also! Thankyou Nicola for an unforgettable tour ❤️. The stops are plentiful and all unique and beautiful. Hotels used were excellent in some stunning locations! This is the fourth tour I have done with Nicetravel in Iceland and I would not hesitate to use them over and over again. Just book it!!
