Traveler reviews
A must do experience
Book this tour! Great value for the money! I had so many questions as our trip approached and didn’t need to worry. Stay at Hacienda Concepcion and get a bungalow; amazing! Alexandra was at airport to transport us; took 1 hour by van and another 1/2 hour by motorized long boat. I was worried they would weigh our bags but we were well under the 10kg for our 2 week Peruvian trip. After checking in they showed us to our amazing bungalow!!! I read nasty remarks about showers and electricity disregard!!! I only took cold and the husband had no problems with hot water. The electricity goes off from 2:30-5:30pm to help conserve resources in the rainforest no issues as you are busy with activities! If flying from USA you will arrive around 11am with nap time, lunch and first excursion 2pm. This is a very well run organization!!! The excursion are a blast; night walks through jungle, lake Sandoval is teaming with monkeys, birds and caimen. Canopy walk included 7 bridges and our group ranged from 30-75 yo and all did great! Freddie was the best guide!!! Patient, knowledgeable and loves his job and has a booming voice so you can hear. Food was amazing and staff very attentive! You have breakfast starting at 5:30am for early morning tour and you will appreciate it being early, lunch, tea time, happy hour and dinner; you will not starve! The motorized long boats are your taxis; on time and very helpful getting us in and out of boats. I use a CPAP machine and they were able to hook it up to a battery during the night. Housekeeping did a great job too! If the Amazon and rainforest are on your bucket list; this is a MUST! Mosquitoes eat my husband alive so we planned with Deet wipes and I sprayed our old, holy shirts with Permethrin and thru out when we left rainforest. You don’t need heavy boots or Keens my waterproof Vessi’s were light and easy and they have foliages when it pours. Also each person has a flashlight to use, and aluminum water bottles you get to keep. You fill your bottles up in the Eco Center so easy to hydrate. This is one tour you will always remember; and you can be in humidity for 2 1/2 days! Just go!!!
Great trip
We we’re lucky enough to see otters, sloths, monkeys and various birds. The canopy walk was fabulous! The staff were amazing! Very luxurious stay and wonderful food.
Great for first timers and solo travellers
Great experience. I travelled to Peru solo and did this tour between my stays in Cusco and Lima. The property is well kept and the staff is very acommodating. I had hot water in my cabin during my stay and they provided filtered and bottled water thoughout the stay. I also was able to met a lot of fellow travellers during mral times in the main hall. The tours were organized - they provide you with several types of activites to explore different parts of the jungle. You arent guaranteed to see any wildlife - its very dependent on the weather, time of day, luck, ect - but i thought each of the activities offered something special. I went on 4 of the 6 excursions offered during my stay and only on 1 we didnt see any animals. Definitely a great option for first timers in the jungle.
Overpriced
This tour is two full days, NOT 3. For the price, did not feel it was worth it. As a vegetarian, the meals were not very nutritionally balanced- mostly all carbohydrates and minimal protein leaving you hungry between meals without snacks served at all.
Best jungle tour and company!
We selected Hacienda Concepcion because they had many interesting jungle tours and activities. We were amazed at how many activities were scheduled each day and participated in all of them. We had a spectacular guide who knew everything about the jungle and helped us spot a sloth, numerous monkeys, a large wild guinea pig, many Cayman and even the rare large river otter.I had read on other reviews not to expect to see any animals and so was ecstatic to have so many sightings. We also added a morning trip to the clay lick to see hundreds of parrots and macaws and parakeets swarming to eat salt. Inkaterra, the company that runs the lodge, also has an amazingly eco-friendly and socially responsible attitude to the jungle. We were proud to be supporting their non-profit activities by staying up their lodge. The Hacienda was way more beautiful than I expected, more like a five star resort with a fantastic restaurant, bar an elegant room. And all for an amazing price. This is definitely the best program in this region.
