The most famous resident of the jail in Woodstock’s historic courthouse was convicted murderer James Dacey. He was imprisoned in a basement cell, tried in the courtroom above, and then hung outside on a gallows platform made specially for this singular event. According to newspaper accounts, for the two years Dacey awaited his execution, he often howled throughout the night, waking town residents. I feel like the tour guide went out of her way to discredit many of the positions Eric Larsen took in his book. You’re selling a haunted tour lean into some of the stories. No one knows so talk about the murder house, allegations suggest secret hallways cremation ovens in the basement. The book was popular because of the horrors committed by Holmes. I have read everything written by Larsen and he goes to great lengths to research the subject matter in his books. The reason we went on the tour was because of his book not to speculate on the Holmes crimes
