Itinerary
One of the temples in the ancient city of Wiang Kum Kam, now part of present-day Chiang Mai.
Wiang Kum Kam is an historic settlement and archaeological site along the Ping River, which was built by King Mangrai the Great as his capital before he moved it to Chiang Mai.
The Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre is located right in the middle of the Old City, just behind the Three Kings Monument. The centre is located inside the old provincial government hall in a restored building that dates back to the 1920s. For anyone interested in the history of Chiang Mai, the Arts and Cultural Centre is full of information and history about Chiang Mai’s past. There are many different exhibitions in the centre including photos, old artefacts, maps, and an impressive audio visual display that depicts Chiang Mai’s history from the first settlers to the modern day city. There is even a small scale replica of a traditional wooden village.

Traveler reviews
Due to the fact that it...
Due to the fact that it was a Monday and the arts & cultural center was closed, our guide took us to several craft businesses. The ruins were amazing, people were so welcoming. Loved the umbrella business. Pong was the perfect guide. She was very knowledgeable, entertaining and easy to talk to.
Annoyingly advertise a tour, accepted my booking and then cancel it saying they need at least two people
I was really annoyed with them. They advertised availability and allowed me to book a tour the day before and pay for one person. They then said they can't do it as they need at least two people! Why advertise and let me book? So annoying! I am now trying to get my money back from Viator who are saying no as I cancelled within 24 hours. The booking was made within 24 hours and the tour operator asked me to cancel!
fascinating morning out to old Chiang Mai
This is the site of an ancient city which was the capital before Chiang Mai (which our guide informed us) It was abandoned many years ago due to flooding as it was too close to the river side. The guide him was so full of information, we explored the fields that surround the current temple and see the many ruins of temples and other buildings. Makes a great day of exploration of the area. The temple is very beautiful and there is the opportunity to relax there at one of the cafes which we did. An interesting day out away from Chiang Mai city and I Asia staff were very helpful.
