Full description
Barcelona’s old town is packed with places to eat, but finding the right ones? That takes a local.
Devour's Barcelona food tour cuts through the tourist menus to show you how Catalans really eat: from hand-carved jamón ibérico to an authentic (not yellow!) seafood paella in a family-run tavern that’s been around since the 1950s.
Along the way, you’ll walk the city’s most historic streets, meet the people keeping tradition alive, and taste the flavors that give Barcelona its soul. This is the food tour for travelers who want to go deeper—and leave full.
Come Hungry
Your tour begins at a family-owned restaurant serving locals in Barcelona's old town since the 1960s. Here, your guide will introduce you to ritual of "second breakfast". You'll have a glass of cava, Catalonia's sparkling white wine, with two typical dishes: the famous Spanish potato omelet and a classic Catalan snack combining sweet and savory flavors. Breakfast wouldn't be complete without pan con tomate. You'll make your own just like the locals do.
Taste the Layers of El Born
From there, it’s time to walk and digest, with purpose. El Born is Barcelona’s cultural crossroads, where medieval streets meet modern energy. Your guide will lead you through its most storied corners, revealing layers of rebellion, resilience, and reinvention.
Then duck into a tiny, family-run sweet shop that’s been handcrafting traditional Spanish confections for over a century. You’ll sample their house-made turrón, a beloved almond nougat, along with two other heritage sweets that have stood the test of time.
Sip, Stroll & Shop in Barceloneta
On to Barceloneta—once a gritty fishermen’s quarter, now one of Barcelona’s most atmospheric neighborhoods. Here, locals still sip vermouth before lunch and pass down recipes like heirlooms.
The Barceloneta Market is the beating heart of the local food scene. While tourists crowd the Boqueria for selfies and sangria, you’ll be walking the aisles where locals actually shop, tasting your way through vendors we know personally. You'll stop at Ramón's ham stand, owned by his family for over 60 years. He'll be serving us a selection of three artisan cheeses, two types of hand-carved jamón, and a classic Catalan cold cut. Make one last stop in the market to try a seasonal fruit, handpicked and perfectly ripe.
Next up: a slow-food bodega known for its house-made vermouth, poured over ice and garnished with an orange slice. To go with it? The bomba, a crispy, spicy potato-and-pork tapa that’s uniquely Barceloneta and has an anarchist origin story that’s as fiery as its flavor.
End with a Paella That Proves the Hype
You’ll finish with a meal worth slowing down for: seafood paella made the right way—simmered in house-made stock, rich with saffron, and studded with plump shrimp and local mussels.
It’s served at a family-run tavern tucked inside Barceloneta’s oldest surviving home, where locals have gathered since the 1950s. Add a glass of crisp Catalan white wine, and you've got a meal that feels more like a celebration.
Finally, it’s time to say goodbye to new friends, you’ll leave full, inspired, and ready to continue your foodie voyage through Barcelona.
