Traveler reviews
Need to be fairly fit....
I may have missed this detail....it is a 45 minute hike to the Base Camp and back on somewhat uneven ground. VERY INTERESTING. More 'rustic' than cave tours in the States.
inside the volcano
weather was horrendous (cold, windy and rainy), but otherwise an incredible trip. Very unique, a lot of walking in the rain, but otherwise very worthwhile.
Despite having Pickup issues this was an amazing tour!
Excellent tour, the hike was a good distance which we enjoyed and it was a nice easy hike, the experience inside the volcano was amazing and quite unique. Our tour guide was wonderful and provided knowledge to us about the surrounding area as well as within the volcano. 2 complaints, for over $545, they should have picked us up in a minibus and directly taken us to volcano base camp starting point rather then picking us up in a large bus! The large bus then took us to the bus station where we were transferred to a more personal minibus which took us to the base camp starting point. Secondly, the tour was advertised to start at 8 AM. However, the day before the tour, we get an email telling us we need to be outside our cruise ship at 7:30 AM, for the 10 minute ride to the bus station where we were transferred to the minibus. We arrived at the bus pickup spot at the cruise terminal at 7:45 with 2 other groups and the driver of the large bus was rude to us and told us we were late. Despite his comment, we were in the minibus exactly at 8 AM for the start of the tour. In fact, there is no rush to start exactly at 8 AM, as we were back in town by 1:45 PM for an advertised 6-hour tour. The driver of the minibus did offer to the travelers.to drop people off in town which we took advantage of since we had limited time to see the highlights of Reykjavik.
DO not book. They are the Worst.
DO not use them. Absolutely the worst. They tell you 10 am pickup, and show up before that and leave. They NEVER say anywhere on this description they will be there before the pickup time. They never came or responded to ANY of my messages on the app. No reply, no call, no nothing. I waited from 10 am to 11:30 am and they finally wrote they were there at 9:42 am? Its 10 AM pickup!! I wasted a complete day and have nothing to do now but walk the city by myself because its too late to do anything else. Ive been using Viator for 5 years and have never had this experience before with any operator and I travel all over the world.
Once in a lifetime
This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The guides are very knowledgeable and the experience is very safe.
