Itinerary
Meet your guide at the church in Monastiraki Square, then begin your half-day walking tour with a fresh fruit juice and koulouri, an assortment of Greek breakfast items including cheese pie and spinach pie. Enjoy this with a traditional Greek coffee at a local cafe.
Explore the backstreets around one of the Europe's oldest markets. This area is famous for herb and spice shops, where you can taste and smell traditional products like Greek yogurt, olive oil, tea, chamomile, and cured beef.
Walk over to the chic area of Aiolou, home to some of the best local restaurants in Athens. Try Greek meze, including ouzo or tsipouro, traditional Greek liqueurs. Dive into an enticing pastry shop to sample loukoumades. These golden donuts are unlike any you’ve ever eaten before, doused in sweet syrup and sprinkled with cinnamon and walnuts. Listen to your guide’s entertaining and interesting stories about culture and daily life in Greece, and then head to the meat and fish market of Varvakeios Agora. A Taste of Real Athens
Lilly was our guide through the amazing open air markets of Athens. We started with real Greek coffee, and moved on to more authentic foods that we had no prior experience with. Lilly asked us about different Greek foods we had tried previously and made sure we got to taste completely different things. It was fun, informative, and satisfying to the taste buds.
