Our premier overnight rafting trip in the Rio Grande Gorge combines the Lower Taos Box with the Lower Gorge sections of the Rio Grande for a total of nearly 30 miles of Wild and Scenic River.
This Taos Box overnight rafting trip begins just outside of Taos at the historic John Dunn Bridge. Brace yourself in and paddle hard through the final 5 miles of the Taos Box for these steep and visually stunning rapids! Explore the inner gorge and experience quality Class IV whitewater rapids like; Power Line Falls, The Rock Garden, The mile long Rio Bravo section.
Enjoy a scenic float in the morning morning through the Orilla Verde Recreation Area and the historic village of Pilar. We finish up the trip through the famous whitewater of the Racecourse section of the Rio Grande. The Lower Gorge of the Rio Grande is a broad canyon with lush riparian habitat along the banks of the Rio where the geology radically changes as we pass onto the Rio Grande fault line.

Important information
Know before you book
- Minimum age: 13 years old; Minimum weight: 90lbs
- Online reservations require a 10% deposit at the time of booking.
- This trip meets at our private, Rio Grande Headquarters which is conveniently located 1 hour north of Santa Fe and 30 min. south of Taos.
- For our Taos Box overnight trip, no refunds are offered inside of 14 days before your trip date. If you cancel outside of these time frames, you will be eligible for a full refund.
- It is recommended but not mandatory that all our guests know how to swim.
Know before you go
- There is no experience required for any of our river trips. However, we encourage experience for our more difficult, Taos Box and Razorblades trips. Please feel free to call us with any concerns or questions about appropriate trips for your group.
- Unfortunately, we cannot bring our furry friends on our river trips. We do not have a secure area to keep your dog at our headquarters.
- We run our river trips rain or shine.
- Don’t forget good footwear (no flip-flops), layers and a water bottle.
- This trip is water level dependent and may not be available on the date of your reservation.
Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to 14 days before the activity starts
For our Rio Grande overnight trips and for groups of more than 18 participants, no refunds are offered inside of 14 days before your trip date. If you cancel outside of these time frames, you will be eligible for a full refund. If the Taos Box is unavailable due to water levels, we will reach out to you to discuss all the options, including but not limited to alternative trips.
