Itinerary
After meeting in Dingle we follow the Slea Head Drive on a scenic tour of the rural countryside, passing the deep water natural harbour at Ventry and amazing views of the ocean below as we approach our first stop at Slea Head.
See and hold the lambs and also explore the ancient ring fort and beehive huts
As well as fabulous vistas and photos to capture from this stop, we have the option of strolling along the winding Oceanside road for a few minutes to take in further views and more superb photo opportunities.
Coumeenoole Strand is a captivating location for photography or just kicking your shoes off and paddling along the waters edge. With fine views of the rugged coastline available from the beach at low tide or the walk way down to the sands, this is many peoples favorite location during the tour.
The iconic twisting path down to Dunquin Pier is the historical departure point for the settlers on the Great Blasket Island. These days it is used for the tripper boats visiting the island. Superb vistas are to be captured along the paths at the top of the cliff with the option of walking down the steep path to capture photos at lower vantage points.
Following single track lanes we arrive at an amazing rocky beach with access to a coastal path that provides wonderful views across the rugged shoreline, with the Blasket Islands in the background.
We stop at Clogher Head on our way to Clogher Strand to take in panoramic views of the western edge of the Dingle Peninsula. This wide open vista also looks across to the filming location of Star Wars during 2016. A few minutes away is the storm beach at Clogher, depending on the state of the tide we can access this scenic beach, as well as capturing wonderful ocean landscapes from the viewing platform above the beach. This area also contains a number of secluded rocky beaches and rugged coves that we access with a short drive.
Leaving the ocean and the intriguing coastline behind, we take a scenic 15 minute drive to the 8th Century Oratory at Gallarus where we observe and capture this wonderful example of an ancient stone roofed building.
The ruin of this 12th century Romanesque church is built on an earlier monastic site and has a unique standing stone with a “needle hole” and ogham script carved down the side. A few yards away is a large cross carved from stone. Close by is St. Brendan s House and also access to excellent views of this church in the rural landscape.
Leaving Kilmalkedar Church we have a 15 minute scenic drive back to Dingle and the end of the tour.

Perfect Tour of Slea Head!
This was a perfect tour of Slea Head Drive--everything we were hoping for and more. There were numerous places for great photos along the drive, so we left with some stellar shots! George was very knowledgeable about the history and shared interesting insights throughout without overwhelming us. There was an even an additional part of the drive that my friend and I wanted to see, so George went out of his way to help us see it. Side note: I also appreciated the small group size for the tour. 5 stars and a big thank you to George! I will be recommending this tour to family and friends.
Excellent tour of Slea Head
We had an excellent day out with George - great views, tips to compose photos, informative discussion and stops along the way. Thanks very much !
A Picture Perfect Day Exploring Ireland's Beautiful Rugged Landscape!
Cannot recommend Dingle Darkroom and George's amazing photography tours highly enough. I came to Ireland to run in the Dingle Marathon back in September and spent two lovely days with George doing both his Slea Head and Hidden Peninsula tours. He was amazingly communicative and took the time to understand my goals with the tour; whether they were purely photography or more sight-seeing based. I am by no means a photographer but he still patiently taught me angles and perspectives so I could get amazing photos each time and he was so passionate about the history & stories of each site we visited! We drove to some amazing places around Dingle, such as Slea Head, Conor Pass, the Fairy Glades and Gallorus Oratory to name but a few and I not only left with amazing photos but memories I will cherish for a lifetime! Thank you George! Your tours were a highlight of my entire trip!
