The Accademia Gallery is one of the most sought-after art galleries in the world. Throughout your tour of the gallery, your guide will truly bring these pieces of art to life, with vivid, storytelling descriptions. Along with interesting stories, you can also learn entertaining and memorable facts about the artists and works of art. Embark on this tour through time as you visit the Renaissance era, a time of great pride and heritage in Florence. First, your guide will lead you through the Hall of “Prisoners,” where you can find many of Michelangelo's unfinished pieces. This hall showcases a unique form of Michelangelo's art, "non-finito," or unifinished. These sculptures are meant to showcase the characters inside the block, as you can feel their emotions forming while they are trapped inside the Carrara marble. As a viewer, you can examine the exact scraps and small details where Michelangelo was working with his chisel and hammer.

It is incredible to witness the process of art, which Michelangelo developed from a simple piece of marble. Your guide will share more details about each of these sculptures and their stories. Then, at the end of the hall, you will find the unmissable "David," towering over the tiny viewers. Weighing over 12,000 pounds and at 17 feet tall, this is one of the largest, and most important pieces of art of all time. Learn all about this epic sculpture, as well as Michelangelo and his mysterious life. Did you know Michelangelo was a mere 26 years old when he finished his sculpture of David? Then, admire some of the other masterpieces found in the Accademia Gallery with your guide. You will visit the complex sculpture, “Rape of the Sabines,” by Giambologna, as you learn about the unique process the artist used for his sculptures, which diverses greatly from the simplicity of Michelangelo’s sculpting.

Accommodating for someone with hearing loss

We arrived early as I have hearing loss (cochlear implant and hearing aid) and I was concerned I might not be able to fully participate. Ciao Florence was so accommodating, caring and knowledgeable. They tested and made sure their equipment worked with my hearing devices, and Ana, our tour guide, made sure I was near her so I could read lips for further comprehension. She must have been an art history major because she gave us so much interesting info on the role of artists in the Middles Ages vs. the Renaissance. Highly recommend.

Fantastic tour & a very knowledgeable tour guide!

My husband and I purchased last-minute tickets to the Accademia Gallery barely a week in advance. We rarely do guided tours for museums and prefer to go at our own pace, but this option was the last available ticket at the time, so we booked it. I'm so sorry for not remembering our tour guide's name, but she was wonderful! She kept us engaged the whole time and was very knowledgeable about the exhibit. She also set a good pace and spent a fair amount of time on each work of art before moving on, there wasn't a single dull moment. The gallery was smaller than we expected, but the guided tour made it feel much more fulfilling. Our guide was also very kind and helped us when we asked about the city of Florence in general; we had another place we wanted to visit based on a photograph but couldn't figure out where it was. She told us the exact spot and we had a lovely time exploring the city after the tour thanks to her directions! After the tour we were allowed to explore the gallery at our own pace and I spent a few minutes sketching David. Overall 10/10 experience and I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Accademia Gallery for the first time! Thank you Ciao Florence!
