NOT AN EASY HIKE - BEAUTIFUL BUT STRENUOUS
The views were gorgeous. Absolutely 5 stars for the views and the opportunity to stand on a glacier. The tour is advertised as "EASY" and "family friendly". It was NOT EASY. This hike is moderate to strenuous depending on fitness level. The first 45 minutes of the hike are non-stop uphill, for an approximate 2,000 ft elevations gain. On a paved path that might not be a major issue, but wearing thick layers, crampons, a waist harness, and carrying an ice pick, not so easy. DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR IF YOU HAVE EVEN MINOR HEART OR LUNG ISSUES. Once you reach the top, after all the climbing, you have to use a rope embedded in the ice wall to pull yourself up ice stairs carved into a narrow crevasse. If you are physically fit, and want a shorter hike, this is perfect. I gave just 3 stars because of the very WRONG difficulty level advertised.
Amazing Family Adventure on Skaftafell Glacier
We had an amazing glacier expedition at Skaftafell—extremely well supervised and perfectly organized from start to finish. The team was always available beforehand to answer all our questions, which made us feel very confident going in. A special mention to Laura, our guide this morning—she was fantastic: attentive, professional, and great with our two children. We felt safe at all times. Troll.is is a very serious and professional company—you can book with your eyes closed, even with kids.
