Full description
Most visitors never make it to Óbuda, and that is exactly the point. This corner of Budapest holds Roman ruins, medieval streets and Baroque courtyards, but almost no tour buses, so the restaurants here still cook for locals first. Secret Food Tours takes you through 8 tastings that show you why that matters.
Start at a neighbourhood butcher shop for Hungarian sausage, cold cuts and pickles, then move on to lángos, Hungary's answer to street food done right. Next comes fánk, a warm, jam filled doughnut dusted in powdered sugar. At a restaurant with over 125 years of history, sit down to a traditional Hungarian soup paired with a glass of wine before finishing with two different homemade strudels and your choice of coffee or homemade lemonade.
Your guide grew up on these streets and knows every kitchen door worth knocking on. Groups are capped at 12, so it feels like a walk with a friend rather than a tour. Plus our famous a Secret Dish will be waiting for you, only revealed on the tour!
