Itinerary
Time for something a little different but equally as lovely – we stop in the village of Ullapool, known as the ‘Gateway to the Outer Hebrides’. With a strong fishing heritage, why not grab a quick snack of locally sourced seafood? Or maybe perusing the craft shops is more your thing.
After a quick visit, we’re off to Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve, where the rocks come to life... or it seems that way. From stunning sculptures to poetry carved into rockfaces, it's a breathtaking spot to be sure.
No visit to Scotland is complete without a ruinous castle. As you explore the quiet history of our next stop, Ardvreck Castle, try to imagine what it might have been like for the MacLeods clan living there in the 15th century, overlooking the mysterious Loch Assynt.
It’s time for a wee break so we head to the small fishing port and resort of Lochinver on the west coast of Scotland. Enjoy the beautiful mountain views and white sandy beaches as you perhaps munch on one of their legendary pies for lunch.
Water as clear and blue as a crystal, sand as fine and white as snow. Enjoy a wee stroll, because no matter the weather this is a beautiful spot.

A Fun Tour Into the Highlands
We took this tour on 28/5/2026 with our guide James. This was the second tour we had booked with Rabbie’s on our vacation. We were extremely happy with the first day tour out of Edinburgh and this tour was equally fantastic as well. We met at a very convenient pick-up location just a 5-minute walk from our hotel on the other side of the river. While the tour was full, the tour size is easily managed and did not feel crowded at all. The smaller size van and James’ driving skills were very much appreciated when we got off on to the smaller “single track” roads in the afternoon. As with our other Rabbie’s guides, James was super nice, very knowledgeable, and committed to providing a great day. Since the weather was sunny and hot, James suggested to the group that we stop by and pick up a picnic lunch to enjoy at the beach as well as a stop at Lochinver to pick up some pies. This was a great suggestion and maximized the rare sunny weather we had for the tour. The stops along the way were all very interesting and beautiful but lunch out at Achmelvich Beach was spectacular! The stop at Knockan Crag was very interesting from a geologic point of view but did seem a bit rushed as there was a lot to take in. Again, with the weather we were experiencing, the drive through the highlands provided some fantastic views. James did an excellent job of pointing out what we were seeing and how the highlands were formed. He also did a great job bringing the history of Ardvreck Castle to life as we stopped to visit the ruins. But the white sand beach and crystal-clear water of Achmelvich Beach provided the biggest surprise of the day. It was hard to believe we were in Scotland and not the Caribbean. On the return journey, James made a few quick stops to get some perfect pictures of the trip. Thank you James and Rabbie’s Tours for providing another fantastic day tour. We look forward to booking more tours with you when we return to Scotland and would highly recommend your company for anyone visiting.
Incredible
Fantastic day out. From the information given by the tour guide to the incredible photo opportunities along the way this was a day out not to forget
Add to your to-do list!
This is an incredible tour! I would definitely recommend it. The spots you'll visit and the views you'll experience are just spectacular. We took many tours in Scotland (all great) but this was the highlight. Size of the group is perfect as it allows a relaxed vibes for the entire tour.
