Inaccurate description and unprofessional guide

I have traveled to 50+ countries and have used Viator to book tours for many years. This was by far the worst tour experience I have had through the platform. First, the tour description is misleading. The listing says the tour “starts 11:30am” and lasts “6 to 7 hours,” which reasonably implies an end time of approximately 5:30–6:30pm. However, the guide told us the tour would likely end around 8:00–8:30pm. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she argued that the tour itself ends at 6:30pm and that pickup and drop-off are not included in the stated duration. That explanation does not make sense: if more than 30 minutes is spent picking up participants, then the actual tour does not begin at 11:30am as advertised. The itinerary and duration should be communicated accurately and transparently. More seriously, the tour guide, Cristiane, was extremely unprofessional. There were several recurring issues: 1. She had very poor time management. We arrived late at virtually every stop and left late as well. Although she repeatedly gave the group specific departure times, she did not follow those times herself. She would spend time chatting with certain participants rather than moving the group along. 2. She walked unusually slowly and did not effectively lead the group. Our group was repeatedly passed by other tour groups. More importantly, she often walked in the middle of the group rather than at the front, leaving tourists to figure out where to go next. This was confusing and did not feel like professional tour leadership. 3. She appeared to give preferential attention to one couple. She spent a disproportionate amount of time chatting with them, even when doing so delayed the rest of the group. This made other participants feel ignored and unwelcome. 4. The commentary was very limited. At each stop, she generally spoke for only a few minutes, much of which consisted of repeating the same information. The actual useful information about the places we were visiting was minimal. 5. Her communication repeatedly created unnecessary stress. From the beginning, she emphasized that I might be late for my flight. Later, she repeatedly warned the group that there would be no restroom access for two hours. The way this information was communicated was confusing enough that several people—including me—stopped unnecessarily at the second-to-last restroom because we misunderstood what she meant. 6. Most importantly, she failed to answer a straightforward question and then became rude when I asked again. I asked several times about my options for leaving the final stop early so that I could catch my flight. Instead of answering the question, she repeatedly explained why there was a long line. When she eventually became frustrated and said she had already answered me four times, she still had not actually answered my question. It was another tourist in the group who finally explained my options. This was particularly disappointing because the concern about my flight had been raised repeatedly by the guide herself. The combination of an inaccurate tour description, poor time management, and an unprofessional guide ultimately meant that I missed the final activity. More importantly, I felt uncomfortable and unwelcome throughout the tour. A tour guide’s job is not only to provide information but also to manage the group, communicate clearly, respect participants’ time, and make guests feel welcome. Unfortunately, Cristiane did not do those things. I have taken many guided tours around the world, and this experience fell far below the standard I would expect from a tour listed on Viator. I would not recommend this tour, particularly if you have a flight or other time-sensitive plans afterward.

Tour by the River - a unique experience!

My experience with my family on this tour, held on 05/08, was wonderful. We passed through all the scheduled sights, all within the scheduled time. Highlight to the guide Alexia who commanded the tour with a lot of charisma and professionalism, explaining all the cultural issues and curiosities about the tourist attractions. She also had all the care and attention with my mother who felt bad at the start of the tour by the balance of the van, and in the end everything went well. A highlight also for the driver André Alves, who guided the van safely throughout the journey. I recommend 100%!

Excellent tour of major scenic Rio Tourist Attractions!

This tour was excellent, and these 3 major tourist sites were covered as advertised. Jonas was an excellent tour guide - he's personable, knowledgeable, and fluent in both English and Spanish. He made sure our group stayed together, and gave us enough time at both sites. He was also resourceful - when the lines at Sugarloaf were longer than expected, he made sure that we could still get the sunset views of Rio de Janeiro from Sugarloaf Mountain as promised. Travel times can be long between these 3 sites, but he used this time to point out important tourist landmarks of interest that we passed along the way that we might want to visit during our stay in Rio. Keep in mind that you should bring a warm layer for Corcovado and Sugarloaf mountain, especially during winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Also, if you're staying in Barra de Tijuca, you will be away from your hotel for more than a half-day. I highly recommend this tour, especially if you're pressed for time and want to see the major scenic attractions of Rio!

Excellent guide

We hired a city excursion package and the experience was excellent. Sandra, from the first moment, was very attentive and clear and with all the information. She made it possible for everything agreed upon to be fulfilled and was always willing to help us. Also, she is super kind. We totally recommend her and would choose her again without hesitation!
