Traveler reviews
A must-do experience - even with food allergies
I booked this tour for our first night in Iceland, and I can’t think of a better way to introduce the food, customs, and warmth of the Icelandic people. From the moment we met our guide Katrin, we were totally put at ease. She not only graciously encouraged us to treat each other as family, but seamlessly took care of our challenging food allergies at each restaurant without making us uncomfortable in the slightest. If I could give Katrin 10 stars, I absolutely would!
Travelled to five...
Travelled to five different locations, including desert, fish courses, lamb, stew, lamb and pork sausage. All well chosen and presented. Tour guide was personable and full of information.
Awesome guide and food choices. Experience the food of Iceland!!!
Stefán Kári Ottósson aka Stevie was awesome. So much culture and spirit. The walk was amazing and breathtaking. Loved the food choices and drinks. Thanks for so many memories and a fantastic time. My wife and I loved every bit of it. For our second time in Iceland, we learned so much more. Thanks for the recommendations as they came in handy.
Bonnie, Rock Star Foodie Tour Guide
Our guide, Bonnie/Bara) was a total rock star: literally, she’s in a band (Dora and the Dates—on Spotify) and she is one awesome food tour guide. We learned about Icelandic culinary traditions, the country’s compelling history and its social and musical scene. Bonnie was so friendly, informative and interesting—this is the guide you want when exploring the food scene in Reykjavik. The food was also interesting, from finer foods, to hot dogs, fermented shark with chaser and rye bread ice cream and coffee to end the wonderful experience. Thanks, Bonnie! We had an amazing time!
A food walk with history!
We just finished the Wake Up Reykjavík food tour, and it was hands-down one of the highlights of our time here. If you are coming to Iceland, you simply have to book this. Our host, Stefan (or 'Stevie' as he goes by), was absolutely awesome. He was incredibly knowledgeable, brilliant fun, and just a genuine, down-to-earth guy who made everyone feel welcome from the first minute. The food itself was an amazing mix of flavours and local delicacies, but getting to learn about the history and culture of Iceland along the way was the absolute icing on the cake. Stevie kept the stories engaging and gave us a brilliant, authentic insight into the country. We even braved the traditional fermented shark and washed it down with "Black Death" (Brennivín)—a true rite of passage! It felt like an incredibly authentic experience from start to finish. Do yourself a favour and book this tour as soon as you get to town. Thanks for a brilliant day, Stevie!
