La Reserva Nacional El Yali, se creó a través del Decreto Supremo 41 de mayo de 1996, con una superficie de 520,37 hectáreas. Asimismo, fue designado sitio Ramsar (humedal de
importancia internacional).
Cuenta con tres sectores para visitar; Laguna Matanza, Laguna Colejuda, Laguna Costera o Albufera. Las visitas a los tres sectores son a pie (pedestre), para lo cual hay que considerar un
tiempo de 3 horas.
