A 10km long, palm-fringed promenade and dual carriageway extends in a horseshoe shape around Doha Bay and the city's sea-front. It is lined with hotels, government buildings; lovely open, manicured parks with family facilities and public buildings such as museums and a library. People love to stroll along the corniche, taking in the twinkling sights of the city and the Arabian Gulf.
A Riviera style man-made island developed in an exclusive enclave of Doha. It is the Middle East's most glamorous address, covering 400 hectares of reclaimed land and Qatar's first international urban development venture.
Is the largest and the most multi-dimensional cultural project of Qatar. It is a place where people come together to experience the cultures of the world. With beautiful theatres, concert halls, exhibition galleries and cutting-edge facilities, Katara aims to become a world leader for multi-cultural activities.
Pass by: A newly developed neighborhood and one of the most prominent districts of Doha. West Bay includes many modern buildings unlike other, older districts of Doha. Some of the tallest skyscrapers in Qatar are found in this area.
A stroll down the bustling alleys of Souq Waqif provides an authentic taste of traditional commerce, architecture and culture. The maze of small shops offer a dazzling array of Middle Eastern merchandise from spices and seasonal delicacies to perfumes, jewellery, clothing, handicrafts and a treasure trove of souvenir bargains. Traditional music, art and cultural shows add to the ambience of this special place. Relax and soak up the vitality and atmosphere at one of its eclectic mix of great restaurants and cafes.
Also spelled Al Khawr means "sea on threesides" in Arabic. Older than Doha but far smaller in size. Al Khor is located an easy 50 kilometres to the north of Doha. It used to be the center of the pearling industry in Qatar but lost its importance after the introduction of cultured pearls. It now boasts a scenic harbour where you can find traditional fishing dhows, a corniche leading to mangrove colonies and a museum showcasing the fishing, pearling and dhow building industries.
The mangroves colony is not only a major tourism product for Qatar but an important natural environmental resource for Qatar. It provides a natural habitat and a sanctuary for birds, fish and other animals as well as prevent coastal erosion.
A serene island set amidst nature beyond Al Khor is the Purple Island abundant of mangroves and lush greenery. This island brings you an opportunity to reconnect with nature away from the hustle-bustle of the city. From long walks and family picnics to kayaking options, the Purple Island has something for everyone in the family.
Situated on the North-Western part of Qatar, the Al Zubarah Fort was built besides the ruins of an ancient fort. Al-Zubarah was once a flourishing port and a centre of trade, fishing and pearling. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, this protected area has become one of the most important archaeological sites in Qatar. An international team of archaeologists and antiquities experts, led by the Qatar Museums Authority, have uncovered many of the artifacts which are displayed in the renovated fort. (Museum entrance fees 15$ each )
