El Kab consists of prehistoric and ancient Egyptian settlements, rock-cut tombs of the early Eighteenth Dynasty (1550–1295 BC), remains of temples dating from the Early Dynastic period (3100–2686 BC) to the Ptolemaic Kingdom (332–30 BC), as well as part of the walls of a Coptic monastery. This site was first scientifically excavated by James Quibell at the end of the nineteenth century, but other archaeologists have spent time at this site include Frederick William Green, Archibald Henry Sayce, Joseph John Tylor, and Somers Clarke. However, Belgian archaeologists took over the project in 1937, and it has remained in their hands since then. Much of the research done at this site took place within the town enclosure of El-Kab. However, since the 1980s the work has shifted more to the north and north east of the town

Edfu and a detour to Esna

Our Guide Mohammed and our driver were excellent, both experts in their respective roles. Edfu is virtually intact and gives a real sense of what it must have been like in the ptolemaic era. They were extremely flexible with our itinerary replacing Kom Ombo with Esna, a smaller temple but with beautifully preserved colourful walls and ceilings a long day but would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Transfer and visiting Edfu and Kom Ombo

The transfer with Karlos from Luxor to Aswan with visiting of Edfu and Kom Ombo temples was very convenient, quick and safe. Karlos is a great professional, kind and nice and patient man. He takes care about the tourists and respects and fulfil their wishes and needs. We were very satisfied and thankful to Karlos.

Tourtouring of the tourist

NO MEAL, NO WATHER in a 11 hours trip! We paid 2x20 EURs for lunch, but our guide said, that there is no possibility to visit a restourant. Why the tour office collected for that money? We want our money back! The guide was not educated enough, I know more about the old Egyptian culture than he. Some part of the temples he did not show us because he’s opinion that we saw the temples too slowly! This was a private tour, we paid a lot of money! That was not a tour, that was a tourtouring of the tourist without water, without meal from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM!!!

Long but Worth the Drive

I recently did this tour in Luxor. This is a private tour so you are able to move at your own pace. This was a special tour because after Ko Ombo, the driver dropped us off at an Aswan hotel vs going back to Luxor. The guide, Ahmed Emam, was nice. The driver, Mohammed Ramadan, was a great driver and very professional. Overall, I recommend doing this tour while in Luxor, especially if you need a ride to Aswan without a plane or private car.

Day trip delight

We had an amazing day with our tour guide Mohamed Adel who was very knowledgeable and friendly! We first went to Edfu, a temple for god Horus. Mohamed provided insights to the background on the Egyptian gods and early Christians that found shelter in Egyptian temples. Then at Kom Ombo, temple for Sobek and Horus, we learned how to read some hieroglyphs such as the crowing of the pharaoh and early surgical tools. We finished off the day with a late lunch and was back at our hotel before sunset. Would highly recommend for those with a few days in Luxor!
