The only completely preserved portrait of the king is a three-inch high ivory figurine found in a temple ruin of a later period at Abydos in 1903. All other reliefs and statues were found in fragments, and many buildings of Khufu are lost. Everything known about Khufu comes from inscriptions in his necropolis at Giza and later documents. For example, Khufu is the main character noted in the Westcar Papyrus from the 13th dynasty.

Viking boat Cruise Egypt Nile

Viking Nile river cruise - new boat Aton 80 or 90 passengers. Adults only. Accommodations and amenities on the Aton were wonderful. Spent several days in/around Cairo and several day on the river visiting venues. Would go again - Viking does a wonderful job, tour directors assigned to a specific group of about 25 guests and cater to any needs/requests. Took U$ dollars for pin money/tips, did not get Egypt pounds. Only used credit cards on the Aton or the hotels in Cairo. Learn/prepare to barter. Often trinkets were 1/2 price offered when leaving venues than when entering.Locals all expect baksheesh e.g. washrooms (tip/bribe) thus U$1. Austrian Air flights to Europe then Cairo were cramped cattle cars. Egypt Air Bombardier flights had good leg room. Had a wonderful trip. Will use Viking again.
