This site south of Aswan along Lake Nasser’s shore is the most famous in all of Egypt after the Giza Pyramids. Built by the greatest of the pharaohs, Ramesses II, these huge rock-cut temples marked the southern boundary of the Egyptian Empire with Nubia at the peak of its power during the New Kingdom. They were meant to convey the power of Egypt’s rulers to anyone who laid eyes upon them.

A wonderful journey

Beautiful trip to the Nile and Abu Simbel thanks especially to Nihad, our passionate and exciting guide. Thanks to him, the Pharaohs’ Egypt literally came to life before us and the best magnificent ones we visited had more meaning and relief. Thanks also to the crew of the Dwa for their professionalism and kindness.

Aswan, Abu Simbel, breathtaking views and temples.

After transferring from Cairo to Aswan, with transfers arranged fully by Memphis Tours, we left “our man in Cairo” Abdelrahman, and met Amar in Aswan. Again, we were very please to have all our check in’s dealt with by Memphis Tours, while we sat having a refreshing drink of Hibiscus Tea. We stayed at the Tolip Hotel (separate review) with a transfer to the MS Salacia after our Abu Simbel trip next morning. Early start before sunrise to Abu Simbel, but well worth the 3.5hr drive! Lunch back at Aswan on our Cruise ship. There were 11 of us including 2 children for this trip. Small group.

This agency is not safe, don't trust! We were stolen!

We hired Memphis for being a reputable agency, a 5-star package, to have the best experience possible in Egypt, and during the 12 days we were in Egypt, between the days 04 and 15/Dec 2022, everything flowed as contracted, except one thing: the safety! Unfortunately we were stolen in 2000 USD! On the second day, we took a plane from Cairo to Aswan, and our luggage remained in the van until late afternoon, when we checked in at the Movenpick hotel. So during the day, all our belongings were left in the van during our tours, and the next day, when we left our bags on the Blue Shadow Cruise, we went to Abu Simble, and again we left our backpacks in the van, as we were in a private group of 10 people, with family and close friends. That day, there were 2 drivers. When we checked in at the Cruiseiro, picking up our backpacks (my and my father's), to leave passport and money in the safe, to our surprise, was missing 1000 USD each! I mean, we were definitely stolen in the van, as we had checked the value before leaving the hotel. However, when reporting what happened to the agency, we only had the following answer: “This never happened,” and no action was taken. The agency Memphis subcontracted another Enterprise to make the transfers in Aswan, called Refletions, and it is unacceptable that they do not assume any responsibility simply for not having a history of theft before, according to them. When we arrived in Egypt we asked about the safety of the country, and we were told that it was safe, so we didn't even worry about leaving our backpacks with computer, passport and money while we were doing the tours. We asked the agency to at least share the loss with us, assuming 50% of the value, but the same evaded, neither gave back, I had to keep charging and still, they took nothing! If I were a serious Enterprise, I would not have that attitude! Would you recommend this agency? NO!!! Security and trust are something that cannot be negotiated! It ruined the climate of the trip! The tours themselves were good, the guides were great, but the memory of us being stolen right at the start of the trip, ruined everything! Be careful, don't trust this agency! And never leave your valuables in the van, ever!

A real mess and bad shapes

We booked one day Memphis tours to Abu Simbel from Aswan. Our flight was leaving at 10:25 on December 30, 2021 and we were sent an email the day before advising that we would be picked up from 8:30-9:00 at the hotel. Hours later, the guide sent us another e-mail saying that the hotel pick-up was ahead at 7:30, which is not understood if we were not carrying bags (and they know it), we are near the airport and it is a domestic flight. We stayed two hours waiting at the airport for nothing. On the way back, there was a guy with a sign of Memphis arrivals tours and he told us to wait outside, that he had to wait for another passenger with checked bags. We have a private trip contracted and we do not have to wait for the rest of the passengers and less endure the bad forms. To try to fix it once we were already in our car with the driver, he sent us an audio on WhatsApp to justify himself saying that he could not find us. Worst of all, when we returned to the hotel, we met the guide who spoke a little Spanish and had accompanied us to Aswan Airport in the morning. We told him what happened and he took no responsibility, he rebutted everything we told him. They certainly don't know how to treat customers. Finally, I would like to mention that Memphis tours should ensure that they send confirmation emails (name and guide number, pickup time, etc.) 2 days in advance as mentioned in the emails.
