Itinerary

1

Traveling to DOQ Priorat from Barcelona feels like a real wine expedition in which, suddenly, we abandon our reality to dive in a setting isolated from time. A parallel reality full of wine. It doesn’t sound bad at all!

Duration: 10 hoursAdmission: YES

El Priorat’s landscape is composed of hilly Mediterranean slopes, winding roads that only very recently were paved, and tiny forsaken villages surrounded with vineyards and full of cellars. Thanks to the vision of a group of winemakers at the end of the 80’s and the hard work of many women and men, el Priorat nowadays produces some of the most prestiged wines in the world. Their formula is that of the greatest: very old vines, tiny productions, harsh dry weather and an almost religious winemaking culture. The obsession of the local producers of this region has transformed El Priorat. What was an economically deprived area where to carelessly grow grapes in great amounts is now a wine sanctuary. Here, productions go so low that very often winemakers bottle the grapes of one sole vineyard to make a great wine that differs from that of the next vineyard in the most interesting ways.

Great Priorat tour

Tour guide Toni was excellent. This was my 2nd tour with the company. Pricey but well worth it. You won’t regret.

Outstanding private tours

My husband and I booked two private wine tours from Barcelona with Castlexperience. Both tours were outstanding and worth the cost. The guides, Victor and Javi, were personable and very knowledgeable about wine. By the time the tours were over, we felt like they were our friends. We've traveled all over the world, and the lunches on the tours were some of the best we've ever had. We enjoyed learning about the local grapes as well as the process for making cava. The wineries we visited provided high quality samples with no pressure to buy, but we ended up buying a few bottles to take home and also shipped some bottles to the U.S. Thank you Castlexperience!

Relaxing, a tour for the senses

Discussing wine production with the Vintner while in the vineyard. Very knowledgeable. Really became aware of the complications of preparing wine... truly scientific and artful because conditions are different very year. The tasting was also very personal with the Vintner discussing the the taste of the wine as we ate different cheeses and bread. Been on many wine tours but i learned more on this tour than any others.

Priorat wineries worth the trip

Our guide Pol was outstanding and the perfect host. Both wineries were hospitable, insightful, educational and fun. Dual winery was exceptional. We would highly recommend this as it was the highlight of our vacation. Not cheap but well worth the expense.

Our guide, Paul, and winemaker, Antonio, were outstanding. They were extremely knowledgeable, and the wines were delicious.
